NGC 4785 is a 12.4 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Centaurus . It is an estimated 156 million light years from the Milky Way .
It was discovered on March 1, 1835 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, S, R, glbM".
