NGC 5738 is a 13.9 likes bright lenticular galaxy of Hubble type S0 in the constellation Virgo the northern sky . It is estimated to be 78 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light-years across. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair with NGC 5740 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5725 , NGC 5746 , IC 1054 .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on April 12, 1864 .
