NGC 6131 (also NGC 6131A ) is a 13.1 mag bright bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble-type SBc in the constellation Northern Crown . It is estimated to be 235 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years across. Together with PGC 57932 (also NGC 6131B ) it forms the galaxy pair Holm 742 .

In the same area of ​​the sky there is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6129 .

The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on June 15, 1882 .
