In National League B , EHC Basel was 'B-Champion' in the play-off final against HC Sierre in the 2004/05 season and then achieved promotion in a duel with the bottom of the National League A , HC Lausanne .

Although SC Unterseen-Interlaken (Group 2 - Central Switzerland) became Swiss amateur champions, HC Martigny (Group 3 - Western Switzerland) was promoted to National League B, as neither the amateur champions nor EHC Dübendorf (Group 1 - Eastern Switzerland) applied for a license for the National League B - 2005/06 season . In Switzerland , the three regional champions play out the amateur champions in a simple final round (1st league final round, with two legs).

The 12 teams played 2 double rounds of 22 games each. Then the best eight teams determined the Swiss champions in play-off style. Quarter-finals , semi-finals and the final were each played according to the best-of-seven mode .

The other four teams determined in the play-outs which team is relegated to the first division .
