The district of Nayagarh ( Oriya ନୟାଗଡ଼ ଜିଲ୍ଲା Naẏāgaṛa Jillā ) is located in the Indian state of Odisha . The administrative seat is the eponymous city of Nayagarh .
The district was established in 1995 from parts of the Puri district .
location
The district extends over an area of 3890 km². It is located in the Eastern Ghats south of the lower reaches of the Mahanadi, about 70 km west of Bhubaneswar , the capital of Odisha.
Residents
In the 2011 census, the population was 962,789. The gender ratio was 915 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate was 80.42% (88.16% for men, 72.05% for women). 99.27% of the population profess Hinduism .
