history

The history of Leobendorf, which was first mentioned in a document in 1142, is closely linked to the castle and the Kreuzenstein rule . The parish of Leobendorf was founded around the middle of the 11th century and was the mother parish for the eastern part of the territory of the Formbachers in the Kreuzenstein-Bisamberg area. Later the Korneuburg parish emerged from this in part. In 1260 King Ottokar handed over the patronage rights to the Teutonic Order . From 1451 the parish of Leobendorf was incorporated into Waldhausen Abbey until it was abolished in 1788.

Finds from the Old Paleolithic were made in Unterrohrbach , about 800,000 years old rubble tools of Homo erectus .

Since 2006, Leobendorf has been a member of the regional development association 10 vor Wien .

Culture and sights

Branch church Oberrohrbach
  • Kreuzenstein Castle : Kreuzenstein Castle was a medieval castle from the period 1100-1200. In the course of the 30 Years War it was destroyed and then largely removed as building material. Under Count Johann Nepomuk Wilczek , the castle was rebuilt from 1874 to 1906 as a museum for its extensive art collections. The Schauburg, which was created in this way, is now a popular tourist destination north of Vienna , supplemented by numerous reused medieval components and after the fire damage of 1915 and the war damage of 1945 had been partially removed .
  • Filialkirche Oberrohrbach: The foundation stone for a new subsidiary church was laid in Oberrohrbach on October 21, 2007 and consecrated by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn in the name of the Church of God's Mercy . The church was designed by the Austrian architects Schermann & Stolfa and is currently (2012) the youngest church in the Archdiocese of Vienna.

economy

In 2001 there were 144 non-agricultural workplaces, and according to the 1999 survey there were 60 in agriculture and forestry. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at home was 2026. In 2001, the employment rate was 48.92 percent.

traffic

  • Leobendorf: The Vienna outer ring expressway S1 , which was opened to traffic on January 31, 2010, runs in the municipality of Leobendorf . Furthermore, Leobendorf is a stop of the Nordwestbahn Leobendorf - Burg Kreuzenstein .
  • Tresdorf: The heavily trafficked Laaer Straße leads directly through the Tresdorf cadastral community , on which an average of over 10,000 vehicles drive every working day.
Current traffic debate

The traffic load in this region in the vicinity of Vienna increases year by year. A traffic volume of between 14,000 and 20,000 vehicles per day is forecast for 2020. The population of Tresdorf and the local council of Leobendorf therefore called for a bypass. Together with Harmannsdorf-Rückersdorf, 1,300 signatures were collected for the bypass and handed over to Governor Erwin Pröll . A new bypass variant has been planned for the villages of Tresdorf and Harmannsdorf-Rückersdorf since 2004. The bypass is intended not only to reduce through traffic in these localities, but also to reduce traffic in Stetten and Seebarn after the completion of the S1 . In May 2007, the governor Erwin Pröll gave the approval for the start of construction of the B6 bypass in 2010. According to the latest information, the current start of construction is not planned for 2012/13.
