Due to the specialized mandate to ensure the security of special weapons, this squadron is the only air force in the air force to have its own air force security squadrons.

5th / Guard Battalion

Furthermore, the soldiers of the air force units of the guard battalion at the Federal Ministry of Defense consistently belong to the Air Force property protection service. They are in the 5th Company. Similar to the naval protection forces (4th company), these are assigned to the armed forces as a company, but are equipped with all three uniforms.

Squadron security squadrons

Protection of property in the Air Force was a task that every task force had to perform until the end of the 1990s. The squadron had this own backup stagger , usually only partially active active with two and two non-active coatings . In addition, there were security teams that were only to be staffed in the event of a voltage by calling up reservists . Depending on the size of the squadron and the location, 4 to 16 infantry trained security trains were available.

In the flying squadrons, the security squadrons were combined in peacetime with the medical and motor vehicle squadrons in the air base group, in which NBC defense and air force pioneer skills were also depicted. With mobilization alongside additional backup and runway repair squadrons had been activated.

Air Force Object Protection Battalion

With the intake of air weapon structure 5 as a result of the changing threat situation the non-active scales were partially dissolved and also created a central component for protecting objects from late summer 1996, object protection battalion of the Air Force , based in Witt mouth . The association numbered around 1,100 soldiers. His tasks included "infantry" property protection (1st and 2nd squadron), air defense (3rd squadron), NBC defense and fire fighting (4th squadron), as well as pioneering and the disposal of ordnance in the context of airfield damage clearance (5th . Season). A total of five squadrons were deployed in the three locations Upjever (1st, 2nd and 4th season), Wittmund ( staff ), Wangerland (3rd season), Diepholz (5th season). The object protection battalion of the air force represented within its armed forces , after the air transport associations, the association with the most foreign deployments . The first commander was Lieutenant Colonel Karl-Heinz Kubiak.

Restructuring of the property protection teams

On April 1, 2002, the air base groups were reclassified: Many inactive security squadrons were dissolved, all remaining squadrons (all partially active) were merged and concentrated in three air base groups. These were in Jagel ( Tactical Air Force Wing 51 “Immelmann” ), Kerpen ( Tactical Fighter Bomber Wing 31 “Boelcke” ) and Lechfeld ( Fighter Bomber Wing 32 ). Three squadrons (now called object protection squadrons ) were deployed at each location, two of which were infantry squadrons with four active platoons and one special squadron ( EOD , ABC / Se or anti-aircraft squadrons ) of varying strength. At that time, the Luftwaffe had a theoretical operational equivalent of 32 platoons of infantry object protection (eight squadrons of four platoons each, two of which were in the object protection battalion).

Establishment of the property protection regiment

On June 30, 2006, the object protection battalion and the three above-mentioned air base groups were dissolved. All object protection squadrons (active and partially or non-active) were also dissolved and partially transferred to the object protection regiment of the Air Force "Friesland" , which was newly established at the same time . This is the conclusion of the air force structure 6 in the area of infantry property protection.

Restructuring of the property protection teams in 2013

February 27, 2013: With the decommissioning of the 4th Squadron of the Object Protection Regiment in Wittmund, the regiment lost its anti-aircraft capabilities.

October 10, 2013: The 4th squadron of the object protection regiment in Wittmund was put into service as a specialized, (active) infantry object protection squadron.

Realignment of the property protection regiment

Due to the realignment of the Bundeswehr , Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière announced on October 26, 2011 that the Kerpen site will be closed.

On April 1, 2014, the property protection regiment was restructured. The NBC was on the Joint Support Service (SKB), the explosive ordnance disposal to the army issued. Anti- aircraft missile squadron 1 is responsible for close-range air defense . Since the operational support group in Trollenhagen was dissolved on March 25th, the operational logistics team has been newly set up in the property protection regiment. The construction, protection and operation of an airfield in the operational area can now be ensured by the object protection regiment.

Calls

Human resources, recruitment and training

The infantry units of the object protection consist mostly of crew ranks . Basic military service is trained here directly after the basic training in three to four months up to the status Combat ready (CR; dt .: ready for action). In recent years, the proportion of regular soldiers and soldiers doing voluntary military service has been increased in order to be able to use them in missions and to maintain expertise. In the 2nd Battalion, compared to the 1st Battalion, mainly non-commissioned officers and officer ranks are used due to the higher qualification required.

The offspring for the object protection regiment is mainly recruited from soldiers from the air force training battalion . In some cases, however, there are also soldiers from other units such as hunters , paratroopers or tank grenadiers as well as soldiers from the naval protection forces in the property protection regiment.

The training for infantry property protection is divided into three sections:

  • The Combat Ready training, where the topics of the basic training and the initial instruction for air force soldiers on the weapons Panzerfaust 3 , grenade pistol , signal pistol , machine gun 3 as well as grenade machine gun and hand grenade DM51 take place.
  • The second section is the specialist training, here the individual group soldiers are specially trained for their internal group use.
  • The third section is the preparatory or mission-related training.
