The Olympiastützpunkt Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland is an institution for the promotion of competitive sports based in Mainz .

history

The Olympic base in Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland was created on January 1st, 1994 from a merger of the two existing bases in the neighboring federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland .

tasks

The Olympiastützpunkt Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland is part of a Germany-wide system of bases. It should guarantee the athletes and coaches comprehensive and professional support. Modern sports science findings should flow into the training planning and implementation. The proximity of the Sports Science Institute of the Saarland University (including sports medicine specialist Wilfried Kindermann ) to the Hermann Neuberger Sports School has proven to be very fruitful. In addition, the athletes are informed about career prospects and receive comprehensive medical care.

In addition to the already established top athletes, young talents are to be intensively promoted and introduced to the top international. The Olympic base is funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior , the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior and the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate State Sports Association .
