The mixed relay in biathlon at the 2014 Winter Olympics took place on February 19, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Laura biathlon and cross-country skiing center . This discipline was on the Olympic program for the first time. A total of 16 nations competed over 2 × 6 km (women) and 2 × 7.5 km (men). The Norwegian relay team won gold, the Czech team silver and the Italian team bronze.

Competition description

The mixed relay (also mixed relay ) is based on the rules of the relay race. Here, too, four athletes from one nation entered the race as a team. First, two women had to complete a 6 km run in three laps. The shooting range had to be run once after the first two rounds; the first shot had to be shot lying down, the second shot standing. The athletes had up to three reload cartridges available for each shooting bout. For each target that was not hit after all eight shots had been fired, a penalty loop with a length of 150 m had to be completed. The relay handover to the next athlete took place by clearly touching the body within a given transition zone. After two women, two men went into the race one after the other. Their running distance was 7.5 km, which also had to be completed in three laps. The same rules applied to shooting as to women. At the end of his third lap, the last athlete no longer ran into the transition area, but directly to the finish. The winner was the nation whose relay reached the finish line first.

Total ascent: 2 × 177 m / 2 × 258 m; Maximum ascent: 28 m / 31 m; Difference in altitude: 29 m / 31 m
16 relays, 14 of them in the rating.

Results

On November 27, 2017, the IOC disqualified the Russian athlete Olga Wiluchina for doping and thus the entire relay. The German relay team was disqualified during the games because of positive doping tests from Evi Sachsenbacher-Stehle .
