The women's 7.5 km sprint race in biathlon at the 2014 Winter Olympics took place on February 9, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Laura biathlon and cross-country skiing center . Anastasiya Kuzmina from Slovakia became Olympic champion . The silver medal was originally won by the Russian Olga Wiluchina . The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has, however, after the release of their McLaren reports , the obtained Olympic medals stripped . Wita Semerenko from Ukraine won bronze .

Competition description

The sprint was the individual discipline with the shortest running distance. The 7.5 km were divided into three equally long running laps, after the first and second laps the athletes each had to hit five targets once at the shooting range. The first time they had to shoot in a lying position, the second time in a standing position. For each target not hit a penalty loop with a length of 150 m had to be completed. The athletes started the race at an interval of 30 seconds (sometimes 15 seconds). The winner was whoever had the fastest overall time at the finish.

Total ascent: 258 m, maximum ascent: 31 m, difference in altitude: 31 m
84 participants from 33 countries, 81 of them in the valuation.

The best 60 athletes in the sprint qualified for the pursuit race .

Results

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) subsequently disqualified the Russian athletes Olga Wiluchina , Jana Romanowa and Olga Saizewa based on the findings of the McLaren Report .
