The women's 7.5K sprint race in biathlon at the 2010 Winter Olympics took place on February 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Whistler Olympic Park . Anastasiya Kuzmina from Slovakia became Olympic champion . The silver medal went to the German Magdalena Neuner and the bronze went to Marie Dorin from France.

Competition description

The sprint was the individual discipline with the shortest running distance. The total of 7.5 km was divided into three equally long running laps, after the first and second laps the athletes had to hit five targets twice at the shooting range. The first time the shooting was in a lying position, the second time in a standing position. For each target not hit, the athlete had to complete a 150 m penalty loop. The athletes started the race at an interval of 30 seconds (sometimes 15 seconds) and had to overcome a height difference of 200 to 300 m. The winner was whoever had the fastest overall time at the finish.

Total ascent: 84 m, maximum ascent: 25 m, difference in altitude: 27 m

89 participants from 31 countries, 87 of them in the evaluation. The best 60 athletes in the sprint qualified to take part in the pursuit race .
