Pňovany (German Piwana ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic, in the Okres Plzeň-sever and the closest village to the Hracholusky dam and the local recreation area there .

history

The place is first mentioned in the books of the Kladruby Monastery in 1205 . In the middle of the village, opposite the castle, there was a Jewish settlement, traces of which can still be recognized.

Historical sights include

  • a baroque castle from the middle of the 18th century
  • Church of St. Anne, originally a Gothic building from the 14th century
  • 19th century Jewish cemetery

Community structure

The municipality Pňovany includes the localities Rájov (Rajow, also Rajowa and historically Rayhofen), Chotěšovičky (Klein-Chotieschau), Nový Dvůr (Neuhof) and the desert area Dolany (Dollana) .

Railway connection

Despite its small size, the place has two rail links. The Pňovany station connects the main line 170 (Prague–) Plzeň – Cheb with the branch line 177 Pňovany – Bezdružice . The distance from the train station to the town center is around 5.5 km. The Pňovany zastávka stop is located in an easterly direction on route 170 (Prague–) Plzeň – Cheb. The distance to the town center is around one kilometer.
