The Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet is a multipurpose hall in the Canadian city ​​of Sherbrooke , Province of Québec .

history

The Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet was opened in 1965 and offers seats for 4,321 spectators for ice hockey games (maximum 5,332 seats). The junior ice hockey team of the Sherbrooke Phoenix carries since 2012 there its home games in the QMJHL from. Previously, the Saint-François de Sherbrooke , Castors de Sherbrooke , Faucons de Sherbrooke and the Canadiens de Sherbrooke were based in the venue.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , four women's games and five men's handball tournaments were played in the Sherbrooke hall. In 2006, the Palais des Sports was the venue for the U-18 women's handball world championship .

In June 2011, the City Council approved Sherbrooke an agreement with an investor group led by Jocelyn Thibault , for the renovation of the sports arena for the new team of Sherbrooke Phoenix amounting to more than four million CAD . At the same time, a 15-year rental contract for a QMJHL ice hockey team was signed. In August 2012, the hall was reopened after the work.
