Pierpaolo Guerrini
Pierpaolo Guerrini (born July 5, 1967 in Salerno ) is an Italian composer , sound engineer , arranger and developer. Guerrini's work gained fame primarily through his long-term, close collaboration with the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli .
Career
As a child, Guerrini was interested in sound engineering and its scientific principles. His musical training began at the age of 13 in the parish of Santo Pietro Belvedere (Pisa, Italy), followed by private lessons (piano) and a diploma in ear training and music studies at the Rinaldo Franci Conservatory in Siena .
At the age of 17, Pierpaolo Guerrini first played bar piano; From 1987 he was on the keyboards of the Italian band Homo Sapiens , which emerged as the winner of the Sanremo Festival in 1977 with the song Bella Da Morire .
Even before it became famous, Guerrini began a close collaboration with the Italian singer and tenor Andrea Bocelli, which continues to this day . The beauty of Bocelli's voice and a friendship that developed between them inspired Guerrini from then on in his musical work. He became the tenor's personal sound engineer.
In the same year Guerrini was involved as arranger in the pre-production of Bocelli's debut album Il Mare Calmo Della Sera , with whose title song Bocelli won the Newcomer Prize of the Sanremo Festival in 1994 . Especially for Bocelli, Guerrini arranged a solo version of the duet Miserere, written by Zucchero and Bono .
In 1997 he wrote and composed the Latin pop song Puppua for the singer Kabru , which became an anthem at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in Spain . The title also became known in Italy, for a long time in particular through the broadcast Striscia la notizia on the TV channel Canale 5 .
In the same year Guerrini wrote the title Cantico for Bocelli's album Sogno with the assistance of Mauro Malavasi .
In 2001 Guerrini wrote together with Paolo Luciani Melodramma and with Giorgio Calabrese as lyricist L'Abitudine for Bocelli's album Cieli Di Toscana . Both tracks were released as singles.
Bocelli and Guerrini wrote many new titles together, for example Guerrini's 2003 composition Semper O Mai for Bocelli's album Andrea . The lyrics are written by Bocelli.
Years of different publications followed, in which Guerrini turned to the genres of Pop , Latino, and Classical . His passion for electronic music, synthesizers and analog technology drove him to cross-genre experiments: from hip-hop to dance , to lounge music , film music , audio spots and background soundtracks for audiovisual settings.
Together with David Foster , Humberto Gatica and Tony Renis , Guerrini worked as a sound engineer on Andrea Bocelli's album Amore in 2006 , which was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award (category: Best Engineered Album).
In 2009, Guerrini was also internationally active as Bocelli's sound engineer: on recordings for God Bless Us Everyone , soundtrack for Disney's A Chrismas Carol ( Disney's A Christmas Story ), Guerrini worked alongside producer / composer Alan Silvestri .
This was followed by the recordings of Bocelli's first Christmas album My Christmas for David Foster . Guerrini worked again as a sound engineer. So in 2011 for the vocal recordings by Tony Bennett and Andrea Bocelli for the duet title Stranger In Paradise , and for the CD / DVD Concerto: One Night In Central Park , for which he mixed Bocelli's vocals.
In 2011, Guerrini opened its own professional recording studio in Santo Pietro Belvedere , called PPG Studios .
For the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards Show, Guerrini arranged the music for Just Give Me A Reason , sung live in a duet by Tori Kelly and Andrea Bocelli.
Guerrini also worked as a sound engineer in order to record lyrical operas in theaters and later complete them in his own recording studio, for example:
- - In 2015 at the Palau De Les Arts in Valencia (Spain) the opera Manon Lescaut ( Giacomo Puccini ), conducted by Plácido Domingo , with the participation of Andrea Bocelli and Chris Alder.
- - Conducted by Zubin Mehta , Guerrini recorded the opera Turandot (Giacomo Puccini) at the same location .
- - Again with Zubin Mehta as conductor , the opera Aida ( Giuseppe Verdi ) followed at the Teatro Del Maggio in Florence .
For the soundtrack of Expo Di Milano 2015 , Guerrini edited and mixed the title La Forza Del Sorriso, sung by Andrea Bocelli, at PPG Studios.
In the Best Recording of the Year category, the title Me Falterás , sung by Andrea Bocelli, mixed by Pierpaolo Guerrini, Humberto Gatica and Martin Nessi , received a nomination for the 2016 Latin Grammy Awards.
Bocelli's album Cinema was nominated for a Grammy in 2017 for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album . As a sound engineer, Guerrini was responsible for all of Andrea Bocelli's vocal recordings.
For Perfect Symphony , Guerrini recorded the vocals of Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli. An official video of the title posted on YouTube on December 15, 2017 , received 75 million views in four weeks. In addition to Bocelli's family and house in Tuscany , Pierpaolo Guerrini can also be seen several times. From Bocelli you can hear how he (at 0:29) calls for "Pierpaaa" (Pierpaolo).
Andrea Bocelli's album Sì , released in 2018, reached number 1 in the UK and US album charts with extensive participation by Pierpaolo Guerrini. Guerrini can be heard as a pianist in the title I Am Here, which he wrote , as well as in the title Vivo, which he produced . He also produced Sono Qui (Acoustic) . For the entire album, Guerrini was the sound engineer responsible for all of Andrea Bocelli's vocal recordings, his son Matteo Bocelli ( Fall On Me ), and soprano Aida Garifullina ( Ave Maria Pietas ).
Sound6d
Following an idea of his own, Guerrini developed, in collaboration with Lando Santerini, under the name Sound6d, a method for recording and reproducing sound sources and their arrangement in space, taking into account not only two directions as with conventional stereo recordings , but six: front, back right, left, up, down.
With a Pillow6d device developed by Guerrini, a pillow on which the head of the reclining listener rests, the reproduction is perceived as surprisingly spatial and rich in detail. The device is intended for medical applications and psychotherapy, wellness, relaxation and autogenic training.
