Pizzi (born October 6, 1989 in Bragança ; real life Luís Miguel Afonso Fernandes ) is a Portuguese football player .

Career

In the club

Pizzi began his career at his hometown club GD Bragança and already played four third division games for the club as a youth player. In 2007 he signed a contract with Sporting Braga , but was loaned to third division GD Ribeirão and then to second division SC Covilhã . During the winter break of the 2009/10 season , Pizzi moved to the Portuguese first division club FC Paços de Ferreira as part of another loan deal . He then made his first division debut on January 16, 2010. In the 2010/11 season , Pizzi only missed three league encounters as a regular and scored seven goals, including a hat trick in a 3-3 draw against FC Porto on May 8, 2011 .

For the 2011/12 season Pizzi moved to the Spanish capital club Atlético Madrid on loan , but could not prevail there. Nevertheless, Atlético pulled the agreed purchase option of 13.5 million euros at the end of the season. For the 2012/13 season Pizzi was loaned from the Spanish first division promoted Deportivo La Coruña , for whom he subsequently played 35 league games and scored eight goals. At the end of the season, however, Deportivo rose again from the Segunda División .

On July 26, 2013, Pizzi was signed by Benfica Lisbon for six million euros . He signed a six-year contract until June 30, 2019 and was loaned to Spanish first division club Espanyol Barcelona for the 2013/14 season.

In the national team

Pizzi played a few games for the Portuguese U19 and U21 teams . In September 2012, he was on the occasion of two World Cup qualifiers by national coach Paulo Bento the first time in the senior team appointed. His debut took place on November 14, 2012 as part of a friendly against Gabon , in which Pizzi immediately scored his first international goal with a penalty.
