Victoria Caroline Beckham , OBE (* 17th April 1974 in Harlow , Essex as Victoria Caroline Adams ) is a British singer , songwriter , author and designer . She was a member of the girl group Spice Girls and is the wife of former British soccer player David Beckham .

Life

Victoria Beckham grew up in England Goffs Oak , Hertfordshire on. Her mother was an insurance clerk and hairdresser, her father an electrical engineer. Together they ran an electronics store. She has two younger siblings. In 1980 she decided to pursue a musical career. Her parents enrolled her at the Jason Theater School. She later learned dance and modeling .

Musical career

Beckham became known as a member of the Spice Girls. The band members were recruited in 1994 through an advertisement in The Stage magazine . Beckham's nickname in the band was Posh Spice ( posh = English for elegant ). After the Spice Girls broke up in 2001, she started a solo career, but it was less successful than that of her former bandmates. From her album Victoria Beckham (2001) she coupled the singles Not Such An Innocent Girl and A Mind of Its Own . She also released the single Out of Your Mind with the Truesteppers and Dane Bowers . Newer songs appeared on the DVD The 'Réal' Beckhams , which came out in early 2004 including the UK top 3 hit Let Your Head Go / This Groove . Out of Your Mind reached number 2 and sold more than 300,000 copies. In early 2006 her second solo album Open Your Eyes was released on the Internet.

From December 2007 to February 2008 the Spice Girls went on another world tour together.

Acting career

After Beckham began her acting career with the movie Spiceworld - The Movie (1997), Tom Cruise offered her a role as the alien bride in the Scientology film The Thetan in 2006 , but she declined.

In February 2007 it was reported that Beckham on the US television station NBC their own reality show ( Victoria Beckham: Coming to America ) should be that she and her family during the move from Madrid to Los Angeles shows. The original agreement provided for six 30-minute episodes, but was reduced to a one-hour special, the broadcast of which led to criticism in the US media. In early July 2007 she was seen in a guest role in the US telenovela Ugly Betty , in which she mimed herself.

Career as a model

In 2000 Beckham was a guest model for Maria Grachvogel on the catwalk . From 2009 she worked as a model for the Italian brand Armani , for which she presented lingerie in particular .

In 2004 Beckham designed his own jeans collection, as well as other collections for Rock and Republic under the title "VB Rocks". Her fashion always bears her logo: a crown with the initials dVb. In 2005 she and her husband David brought out the perfume Intimately Beckham . Later on, the couple released a second fragrance called Signature . In September 2006 she founded her own label "DVB Style" and ended her collaboration with Rock and Republic. In 2010, the off-road vehicle manufacturer Land Rover announced that it would be responsible for the interior design of the Range Rover Evoque , which was first announced in early July , in order to make the model more attractive to female customers. At the end of December 2010, she launched her first bag collection. On March 26, 2013, their website was launched with a new online shop and the new clothing line “Icon” was launched. At the end of October 2014 she was named England's Most Important Entrepreneur by Management Today's business magazine.

In the course of the New Year Honors 2017 Beckham was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Elizabeth II .

Books

Two books have been published under her name. Beckham's autobiography Learning to Fly was published in 2001. The book landed at number 3 on the US book charts and has been translated into several languages. 2006 appeared That Extra half an inch: hair, heels and everything in between (to German That certain something ). The book reached number 2 on the Sunday Times Book Charts .

engagement

Beckham has been supporting a campaign by designer Marc Jacobs against skin cancer since 2008 . For this purpose, Jacobs designed a T-shirt, on the front of which she is shown naked together with the slogan “Protect The Skin You're In”. Since February 2008, the T-shirts for the benefit of skin cancer aid have been available in Jacobs stores.

Beckham, née Adams, married football star David Beckham on July 4, 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle, Ireland , in camera. The couple sold the rights to their wedding photos to OK! . The Beckhams have three sons together; Brooklyn (* 1999), Romeo (* 2002) and Cruz (* 2005); and a daughter, Harper (* 2011), with whom they have lived in Los Angeles since 2008. In late 2006, it became known that her son Romeo had epilepsy . Because, among other things, flashing light can trigger an epileptic seizure, the Beckhams asked the press for consideration for their second oldest son. Representatives of the press then stated that they no longer wanted to use the flash.

Carl Heinrich Pfänder (1819–1876) is one of Beckham's ancestors . He came from Heilbronn and came to London around 1845, where he was a revolutionary in the circle of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels .

  • In the British media Beckham is referred to as a member of the "WAGs" ( Wives and Girlfriends , designation of the players' women in England).
  • In early January 2008, Beckham was named "Worst Dressed Woman 2007" by style critic Richard Blackwell, making it the last Blackwell list he published .
  • In the entire 2008 vintage of the US fashion magazine Elle , the issue with Beckham on the cover (January 2008) was the best-selling (413,000 copies). According to the US media and fashion magazine WWD, January is traditionally one of the months with the lowest circulation, so this record is particularly outstanding.
  • Beckham was featured on the cover of Vogue fashion magazine seven times . Among other things on the German , Russian and British edition.
