René Renner (born November 29, 1993 in Wels ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

Career start in the Upper Austrian Lower House

Renner began his career at SV Wallern . During the winter break of the 2009/10 season he moved to ASKÖ Donau Linz . In May 2010 he made his debut against SV Traun for Donau Linz in the Upper Austrian League . By the end of the season he made two appearances in the fourth highest division. After he was not used in the 2010/11 season, he moved to the fifth-rate ASKÖ SV Viktoria Marchtrenk during the winter break of that season . By the end of the season he came to twelve appearances in the national league .

Change to the regional league

After a further 13 appearances in the 2011/12 season, he moved to the regional league team Union St. Florian in January 2012 . He made his regional league debut in March 2012 when he came on as a substitute for Florian Gahleitner on the 17th matchday of that season against FC Wels in the half-time break. He scored his first goal in the Regionalliga in June 2012 in a 1-1 draw against FC Gratkorn . By the end of the season he came to nine regional league appearances in which he scored one goal. In the 2012/13 season he played 28 games in which he scored three goals.

For the 2013/14 season he moved to league competitor SV Wallern, where he had once started his career. That season he came to 28 appearances in the Regionalliga, in which he scored six goals.

In Innsbruck and Linz in the second division

For the 2014/15 season he joined the second division club FC Wacker Innsbruck . He made his debut in the second division in July 2014 when he was brought into play for Christian Schilling on the second match day of that season against SC Austria Lustenau in the 79th minute . In November 2014, he scored his first second division goal in a 2-0 win against SV Horn . By the end of the season he came to 25 second division appearances, in which he scored four goals.

In the 2015/16 season, he played 16 league games for Innsbruck without a hit. For the 2016/17 season he moved to league competitor FC Blau-Weiß Linz , with whom he received a contract that ran until the end of the season. For Linz he made 27 appearances in the second-highest division that season and scored five goals.

Change to the Bundesliga

After his contract in Linz expired, Renner moved to Bundesliga club SV Mattersburg for the 2017/18 season . He made his Bundesliga debut in August 2017 when he came on as a substitute for Andreas Gruber in the 76th minute against SCR Altach on matchday six of that season . In his first season with Mattersburg, he played 21 games in the Bundesliga, in which he was without a goal. In September 2018 he scored his first goal in the top division in a 2-1 win against SK Sturm Graz . In the 2018/19 season he made 30 appearances in the Bundesliga and another in the Europa League playoff, scoring five goals.

For the 2019/20 season, he switched to league rivals LASK . With the LASK he took part in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League . There they defeated FC Basel in the third round , but failed in the playoff at Club Bruges . Renner was used in all four games.

Personal

His girlfriend had an accident in July 2020 in a boat accident during a rafting tour on the Salza in the Palfau area in Landl ( Liezen district , Styria ) and succumbed to her serious injuries a few days later.
