Thomas Goiginger (born March 15, 1993 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

From Köstendorf to the Salzburg league

Goiginger started his career at USV Köstendorf . In June 2008 he came to his first assignment for the first team of Köstendorf in the fifth class 2nd national league . For the 2010/11 season he moved to the fourth class USC Eugendorf . In July 2010 he made his debut in the Salzburg league when he was in the starting line-up against FC Zell am See on the first day of the season and was replaced by Manuel Krainz in the 83rd minute . In August 2010 he scored his first goal for Eugendorf in a 2-0 win against Union Henndorf . By the end of the season he had played 29 games in the fourth-highest division, scoring 13 goals.

Change to the regional league

For the 2011/12 season he moved to the Regionalliga Mitte for Union Vöcklamarkt . In August 2011, he made his first appearance in the regional league when he was on the starting line-up on the first day of that season against DSV Leoben . In November 2011 he scored his first goal in the Regionalliga and his only goal for Vöcklamarkt in a 2-0 win against Union St. Florian . After six months in Upper Austria, he moved to the western league for TSV Neumarkt in January 2012 . For Neumarkt he made 13 appearances by the end of the season and scored one goal. In the following season 2012/13 Goiginger was used in all 30 games of the season and scored seven goals. In the 2013/14 season he was used in 29 games and made eleven goals, he only missed one game.

Via the Bundesliga to the second division

After two and a half seasons at Neumarkt, he moved to Bundesliga club SV Grödig for the 2014/15 season . In September 2014 he made his debut for Grödig in the Bundesliga , when he was in the starting line-up against SCR Altach on matchday eight of that season and was replaced by Matthias Maak in the 38th minute . In March 2015 he scored his first goal in the top Austrian division in a 3-1 defeat against SC Wiener Neustadt . In his first season with Grödig he came to 16 missions in which he scored one goal. In the following season 2015/16 he also came to 16 missions, but remained without a goal. At the end of the season he had to relegate Grödig as bottom of the table from the Bundesliga, the Grödig also withdrew from professional football and were transferred to the regional league.

He then moved to the second division club FC Blau-Weiß Linz for the 2016/17 season , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2017. He played his first game in the second division in July 2016 against WSG Wattens . In August 2016 he scored his first goal for Linz in a 2-1 defeat against SV Horn . By the end of the season he made 33 appearances for BW Linz in the second-highest division and scored eight goals.

With the LASK in the European Cup

For the 2017/18 season, after his contract with BW Linz expired, he moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga LASK , where he received a contract valid until June 2020. In his first season with the Upper Austrians, he made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga and scored seven goals. At the end of the season he finished fourth with the LASK and thus took part in qualifying for the Europa League . He played his first international competition match in July 2018 in the second round first leg against Lillestrøm SK . Goiginger scored two goals in the game that the Upper Austrians won 4-0. He also contributed a goal in the 2-1 win in the second leg. With the LASK he was eliminated in the third round against Beşiktaş Istanbul .

At the end of December 2018, he extended his contract prematurely until June 2022.

National team

In November 2018 Goiginger was appointed to the squad of the Austrian national team for the first time as a replacement for Marcel Sabitzer . He made his debut for this in November 2019 when he was in the starting eleven in the European Championship qualification against Latvia and was replaced by Lukas Hinterseer in the 69th minute .

Personal

Before his career as a professional footballer, Goiginger worked as an industrial clerk at Palfinger .
