Andreas Gruber (born June 29, 1995 in Mürzzuschlag ) is an Austrian soccer player .

Career

Gruber learned to play football at his home club Phoenix Mürzzuschlag / Hönigsberg . At the age of eleven, he moved to Grazer AK on November 23, 2006 and stayed with the club until bankruptcy threatened . It was not until March 17, 2010 that he moved to the youth department of SK Sturm Graz, where he ran through the U-15, U-16 and U-18 teams.

In July 2012 he was taken over into the squad of the second team of SK Sturm Graz and played in addition to the U-18s in the Regionalliga Mitte . He made his first appearance on August 5, 2012 in the home game against Union Vöcklamarkt . Gruber had to wait until August 2, 2013 for his first goal in the adult area, when he scored 2-0 in the 3-1 away win at SC Kalsdorf . Subsequently, under coach Markus Schopp, he developed into a regular in the second team, which was reflected in 24 appearances and 11 goals in the 2013/14 season.

In the summer of 2014 Gruber was added to the Bundesliga team by coach Darko Milanič . He played his first competitive game with the professionals on August 17, 2014 in the Graz UPC Arena . In the 1-1 draw against FK Austria Wien , he came on for Daniel Beichler in the 81st minute of the game . Gruber had to wait until April 11, 2015 for his first goal in the professional field. In the 5-0 home win against SCR Altach , he scored twice.

On 30 July 2015 Gruber came to his first international duty Stakes, when he in the 2: 3 defeat Grazer against Rubin Kazan during the qualification for the UEFA Europa League instead of Thorsten Schick came on.

For the 2017/18 season he switched to league rivals SV Mattersburg . The club stopped playing after the 2019/20 season.

He then moved to LASK for the 2020/21 season , where he received a contract that ran until June 2023.

National team

Gruber's good performances did not go unnoticed by the team boss of the Austrian U-20 national team , which is why Andreas Heraf called him to the squad for the friendly international match on March 30, 2015 in Rohrbach an der Lafnitz against his colleagues from Mexico . In the 3-1 victory he was substituted on for Markus Blutsch at halftime and was allowed to wear the team jersey for the first time. After his performance met the expectations of the team boss, he was accepted into the squad for the 2015 U20 World Cup in New Zealand . Gruber played in all four of the Austrian team's games against Ghana (1: 1), Panama (2: 1), Argentina (0: 0) and Uzbekistan (0: 2).

In September 2015 he was appointed to the squad of the Austrian U-21 national team for the first time by team boss Werner Gregoritsch . On October 9, 2015 in the St. Pöltner NV Arena he was allowed to make his debut in the U-21 team in the 7-0 win against his colleagues from Azerbaijan as part of the qualification for the 2017 European Championship , when he took the place in the 83rd minute of the game by Kevin Friesenbichler came on.
