content

The French Connection in the person of entrepreneur Douvier is under pressure. The godfather from the USA no longer trusts the power and agility of the French. So the French Connection decides to make an example. She wants to prove her integrity to the world with an assassination attempt on Inspector Clouseau. The first attempt at a bomb attack fails. The second attempt fails miserably; a ninja is supposed to kill Clouseau, but as always he has more luck than brains and kills the attacker. On the third attempt, Clouseau is lured into a trap by a bogus phone call. On the way there he is attacked by the bank robber Claude Russo, who always disguised as a woman goes on a raid. He forces Clouseau to swap clothes and traps his Peugeot. Douvier's men shoot at the car until Russo loses control of the car and drives it into a tree. The car goes up in flames.

Since Clouseau is believed to be dead, a state mourning is imposed in France. To clear up the case, ex-chief inspector Dreyfus, who is housed in a mental hospital, is rehabilitated. Clouseau, who walks around in women's clothes, is in the meantime picked up by a police patrol and brought to the clinic from which Dreyfus is about to be released. During his escape from the police, Clouseau happened to hide in his room. Dreyfus collapses at the sight of Clouseau and Clouseau escapes, disguised as Dreyfus. When he arrives at his old apartment, he discovers that his servant Cato has turned the apartment into a brothel. Clouseau decides to take advantage of his supposed death and go undetected.

On a tip, Clouseau tries to break into a Paris nightclub. There he accidentally saves Simone Legrée, Douvier's ex-secretary and lover (she was fired because Douvier's wife had too much in her hand against her husband). Simone should be eliminated, which failed thanks to Clouseau. In her apartment, after a few glasses of cognac, Simone becomes talkative and starts unpacking, about Douvier and his relationship to the drug business as well as to the French Connection. On the run from Douvier's men, she tells Clouseau about the gannet transaction in Hong Kong - by coincidence that happens in Dreyfus' apartment, of all places, which is below Simone's apartment. Because that's where the two of them got in to hide from their pursuers. Dreyfus overhears everything, sees Clouseau and collapses again.

Clouseau, Simone and Cato travel to Hong Kong to prevent the gannet transaction. The plan is simple: Clouseau poses as Mr. Scalini (the godfather from the USA) in order to steal the drugs from Douvier. In perfect disguise, he almost succeeds. It turns out that Gannet is a yacht with the drugs hidden in the bow. The showdown takes place in the port of Hong Kong. Douvier, the real Scalini and the Chief Inspector Dreyfus, who has since arrived, meet. Dreyfus tries to shoot Clouseau in the scuffle. The grand finale then takes place in a warehouse for fireworks.

Clouseau, now officially alive again, receives another award from the President.

criticism

"Fourth sequel to the crime comedies about the stupid inspector, which, thanks to its leading actor and some excellently staged gags, lets you forget many weaknesses."
