Richard Dove (lyric poet)
Richard Dove (born August 26, 1954 in Bath , England ) is a German-speaking writer of British origin.
life and work
After leaving school, Richard Dove studied German and Romance languages at Oxford , which he completed with a doctorate on August von Platen . He then worked as a lecturer in Exeter , Regensburg and Wales . In the beginning he wrote English poetry. Since moving to Munich in 1987, he has primarily written poems in German, which have been published in individual titles as well as in anthologies, literary magazines and newspapers.
Dove also writes articles and reviews and translates poems by German-language poets such as Ernst Meister , Friederike Mayröcker and Reiner Kunze into English.
With the anthologies translated into German by numerous well-known authors such as Alfred Andersch , Erich Fried and Hans Magnus Enzensberger , Indivisible. Poems from six decades as well as conversation with the muse of old age , Dove played a decisive role in the wide-ranging reception of Michael Hamburger's poems in the German-speaking world.
Richard Dove is married and has two daughters. He lives in Munich and teaches there as a lecturer at the foreign language institute of the state capital Munich .
