Róbert Vittek [ ˈrɔːbɛrt ˈvittɛk ] (born April 1, 1982 in Bratislava ) is a former Slovak football player .
Career
society
ŠK Slovan Bratislava
Róbert Vittek began his career in his home town of Bratislava with ŠK Slovan Bratislava in the youth team before the 1999/2000 season, after which he played in the club's professional team. As a youth player, he had a preliminary contract with Real Madrid , but the move to Spain was broken due to a serious knee injury.
1. FC Nuremberg
In August 2003 he moved to Germany for the then second division club 1. FC Nürnberg . Vittek succeeded with the club in the 2003/04 season promotion to the first Bundesliga , to which he contributed ten goals in 27 games. In the 2004/05 Bundesliga season he played 24 games for 1. FC Nürnberg and scored five goals. He had to end the season early due to injury. Vittek has suffered injuries since then. In the first half of the 2005/06 season he was always substituted on or off and he didn't manage a single goal. Vittek's breakthrough followed with the new coach Hans Meyer : With 16 hits in the second half of the season, he had a share in the jump of 1. FC Nürnberg from last to eighth place in the table. One of the highlights was a new record : On the 24th and 25th match day of the 2005/06 season he scored six goals in a row without an intervening goal by another player, and he also scored the 87th hat-trick in Bundesliga history . Since he scored two more goals on matchday 26 and missed out on round 27, he narrowly missed the Bundesliga record of Lothar Emmerich and Tomislav Maric , who scored four double packs in a row.
2006/07 was followed by another mixed season with four goals in 24 games. So he only played up to the quarter-finals in the DFB-Pokal and only returned in the final - and there only on the bench. Nuremberg won the cup on May 26, 2007. On July 24, 2007 he scored both goals for his team in Nuremberg's only game in the DFL League Cup to date . The game ended 4-2 for FC Schalke 04 . During the fourth match day of the 2007/08 season , Vittek received his first Bundesliga dismissal (yellow-red) in the game against Energie Cottbus (final score 1: 1). Only a few days later, during an operation, damage to the cartilage was discovered, which resulted in failure beyond the winter break. After the injury, his start was delayed by the flu. Due to the long injury break, he was not used in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup . It was only on the fifth match day of the second half of the season that he was substituted on against Hannover 96 in the 46th minute. He had paused exactly half a season. By the end of the season he made 17 appearances, but with a single goal of the season could not help prevent 1. FC Nürnberg from relegating to the 2. Bundesliga. In the first two games of the second division season 2008/09 Róbert Vittek was still on the field for 1. FC Nürnberg, then he moved to OSC Lille in France.
Lille OSC
Vittek moved to Lille OSC for a transfer fee of four million euros , where he received a contract until 2012. There he came to his first appearance on August 31, 2008, the 4th matchday, and ultimately helped the club to fifth place with a total of five goals in 26 games and thus to qualify for the UEFA Europa League . In June 2009 Vittek had flirted with a return to Nuremberg because he could not assert himself at Lille and would have liked to play again with his long-time friend Marek Mintál . Due to the high transfer and salary costs, however, this transfer was considered unlikely from the start and ultimately did not materialize. On July 30, 2009, he played for Lille for the first time in the qualifying round for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League against FK Sevojno and scored one goal. At the start of the league on August 9, he was in the starting line-up. Vittek was loaned to the Turkish club MKE Ankaragücü until the end of the season.
Trabzonspor
In September 2011 Vittek got a two-year contract with Trabzonspor . On the second day of the Süperlig season 2011/2012 (September 17, 2011) he tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee in the game against Istanbul BB (0: 1). A cruciate ligament rupture prevented a possible move to Real Madrid as a 16-year-old.
Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor
For the second half of the season Vittek moved within the league to Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor .
Return to the ŠK Slovan Bratislava
At the beginning of the 2013/2014 season, Vittek moved back to ŠK Slovan Bratislava, which he left 10 years ago. In the 2014/15 season he reached the group stage of the Europa League with Slovan Bratislava .
National team
Vittek has been a regular in the Slovak national football team since 2001 . In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , the trained striker contributed with his goals that Slovakia could play the relegation game against Spain , which was then lost. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he scored the first World Cup goal in the history of independent Slovakia in the group stage against New Zealand . In the decisive game against reigning world champions Italy he scored two goals, which meant that Slovakia qualified for the round of 16, while Italy were eliminated. Slovakia lost 2-1 in the round of 16 against the Netherlands . With a penalty in the 94th minute, Vittek scored his fourth goal during the World Cup and became the Slovak team's record scorer with 23 goals.
Trivia
During the winter break of the 2010/11 season, Red Bull Salzburg sought a transfer of the striker. After the transfer modalities had been clarified with MKE Ankaragücü , the Turkish club officials said they sent the confirmation fax to Salzburg on December 31, 2010 shortly before midnight. The fax was received until one minute after midnight in Salzburg and the transfer at 00:03 in the Transfer Matching System (TMS) of the FIFA registered. The transfer was therefore invalid. Ankaragücü blamed a defective fax machine for the incident, whereupon Red Bull Salzburg appealed to still carry out the transfer. On February 23, 2011, FIFA confirmed the verdict: Vittek was not allowed to switch to the reigning Austrian champions.
