Roman Wallner (born February 4, 1982 in Graz ) is a former Austrian football player on the position of striker .

Career

society

At first he played in the amateur team at SK Sturm Graz . He made his professional debut at the age of 16 when he came on as a substitute for Tomislav Kocijan in the 84th minute of the Champions League game against Inter Milan . Since he saw no real employment opportunities in the successful team, he moved to Rapid Vienna in 1999 , where he was named Krone - “Footballer of the Year” , among other things . At that time he was considered the most promising forward talent in Austria , alongside Roland Linz . But there were also scandals, for example when he appeared drunk at a training session.

In the 2004/05 season Roman Wallner was involved with the German Bundesliga club Hannover 96 , but only played a few games and made headlines mainly through scandals. In June 2005 Wallner moved back to Austria on loan to VfB Admira Wacker Mödling , but the hoped-for career upswing failed to materialize. At the winter break, his club was bottom of the league table , and only one free kick goal was his account. There were also conflicts with teammate Nenad Bjelica and coach Robert Pflug, who even transferred him to the amateurs.

On January 28, 2006 it became known that Roman Wallner was withdrawing from his contract with Admira due to outstanding salary payments. Until the summer of 2006 he signed a purely performance-related loan agreement with an option to buy with Austria Wien . Austria coach Frenkie Schinkels said that he himself was not an easy case and that he wanted to lead Wallner back on the right track.

For the 2007/08 season Roman Wallner moved to the Scottish Premier League for FC Falkirk . This was an annual contract with an option for a further year. After only two missions in the fall, he was awarded in November 2007 to the Scottish second division club Hamilton Academical . He was not lucky there either and so he moved to Apollon Kalamarias in Greece at the end of January 2008 .

The Austrian received a contract until June 2009. Wallner was supposed to help the relegation-threatened club in the fight to stay relegated, but was no longer allowed to play for Apollon after the implementation of a FIFA rule in 2008. The only game he had played for the Greeks (1-0 against Olympiacos Piraeus) should be played again due to his commitment, but after a legal dispute that dragged on to the International Court of Justice (CAS), the opponent Olympiacos Piraeus won 3 -0 as well as a deduction of one point for Apollon. Olympiacos became master and Apollo was relegated.
After being suspended for almost half a year, Wallner moved to the Greek first division club Skoda Xanthi in early September 2008 . As has so often been the case in recent years, he was unable to assert himself there and after only half a year and no work for Xanthi, he moved back to Austria to LASK Linz in January 2009 .

At LASK he got back to his old strength and led the scorers list with 14 goals after the fall season 2009/10 . The national team under coach Dietmar Constantini was not long in coming and called him back after years of absence. During the winter break, the current Austrian champions FC Red Bull Salzburg increased their interest in Roman Wallner and on 23 January 2010 announced their move from Linz to Salzburg. With his new club, Wallner won the Austrian soccer championship in the 2009/10 season.

On January 30, 2012, Wallner switched from the Austrian to the German Red Bull branch, RB Leipzig . For Leipzig, he scored three goals on his debut on February 19, 2012, the 8-2 win over SV Wilhelmshaven .

On August 30, 2012 Wallner ended his engagement with RB Leipzig and signed with FC Wacker Innsbruck . After he had already scored four decisive goals in the cup games against 1. SC Sollenau (2nd round, three goals) and Sturm Graz (round of 16, one goal), he scored the winning goal against SC Wiener on November 3, 2012 Neustadt (1-0) his first league goal in Innsbruck's dress in the eighth mission. On August 17, 2013 Roman Wallner scored his 100th goal in the Bundesliga in the home game against SV Ried (2: 3). With the Innsbruck team, he was relegated to the first division in the 2013/14 season and then moved to SV Grödig . After Grödig retired from professional football, he left the club in summer 2016.

For the 2017/18 season , he will return to the now third-rate club after a year without a club. This season he was with eleven goals from 21 championship games behind Mamby Koita , who scored twelve goals in just 14 appearances, the Grödiger's second-best goalscorer . Behind the USK Anif , SV Grödig took second place in the table at the end of the season and remained in the Austrian third division for the 2018/19 season .

On March 26, 2019, SV Grödig announced that Wallner would end his career after 22 years in professional football with immediate effect.

National team

Between 2001 and 2010 Roman Wallner played 29 games for the Austrian national soccer team and scored seven goals.

Roman Wallner was in a relationship with Mirjam Weichselbraun's twin sister until 2013 and has a daughter with her.
