The SNAV Adriatico is an Italian ferry .

history

The ship was built under construction number 935 at the Van der Giessen-De Noord shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel for the Dutch shipping company Stoomvaart Maatschappij Zeeland. The construction contract was signed in August 1984. The ship's design originally came from the Seebeck shipyard in Bremerhaven .

The keel was laid on January 28th, christening and launching on November 9th, 1985. Godmother was Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands . The completion of the ship took place in April 1986. The ship came as Koningin Beatrix under the flag of the Netherlands ( Heimathafen Hoek van Holland ) in the North Sea on the route Hoek van Holland - Harwich in service, from Stoomvaart Maatschappij Zeeland and Sea Containers under the Name Sealink British Ferries was operated.

In 1989 Stoomvaart Maatschappij Zeeland was taken over by Stena Line . The following year, Stena Line took over Sealink British Ferries completely. The Queen Beatrix was still used on the Hoek van Holland – Harwich route.

From June 1997, Stena Line started using the new Stena Discovery fast ferry on the ferry route between Hoek van Holland and Harwich. The Koningin Beatrix was used as a hotel ship for a few days during an EU conference in Amsterdam . It was then used by Stena Line in the Irish Sea on the Fishguard - Rosslare Harbor route, where it in turn replaced the Stena Felicity . In August 1997 the ship was brought under the flag of the United Kingdom (home port London ).

In March 2002 the ship was renamed Stena Baltica and brought under the flag of the Bahamas (home port Nassau ) and then used in the Baltic Sea between Karlskrona and Gdynia , where the Stena Europe was previously used, which in turn was on the route between Fishguard and Rosslare Harbor changed.

In 2005 the ship was extensively rebuilt at the Gdańska Stocznia “Remontowa” shipyard . The passenger facilities on decks 6 to 9 have been modernized. The facilities on decks 4 and 5, here there were passenger cabins in the front area and two ro-ro decks for the transport of cars in the rear, were removed in favor of additional ro-ro capacities. In the course of the renovation work, the loading ramps were also rebuilt so that Ro-Ro decks 2 and 4 could be loaded and unloaded simultaneously. The renovation costs amounted to around SEK 235 million .

In June 2011 the ship was replaced by the Stena Spirit . The Stena Baltica was in Lysekil launched .

In early 2013, it was sold to the Italian shipping company Società Navigazione Alta Velocità (SNAV). The ship, renamed SNAV Adriatico , first came under the flag of Cyprus (home port Limassol ) and was used between Ancona and Split . In December 2013 the ship came under the Italian flag (home port Naples ). From October 2014 to April 2015 the ship was chartered by Ferry Xpress in Panama and was used between Colón in Panama and Cartagena in Colombia and Colón and Bocas del Toro in Panama. From May 2015 it was chartered by Trasmediterránea between Barcelona and Maó on Menorca for two years . In May 2017 the ship was transferred to Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) in Genoa . The ship has been in service between Naples and Palermo since July of that year .

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by four four-stroke - eight-cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer MAN (type 8L40 / 45) to 19,360  kW power driven. The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers . The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters with 1,275 and 735 kW output. Four generators are available for generating electricity on board, each driven by Stork-Werkspoor diesel engines with an output of 1,670 kW. To reduce rolling movements in rough seas, the ship is equipped with fin stabilizers .

The ship initially had four vehicle decks. The main deck is a continuous deck that is accessible via ramps at the bow and stern . Trucks and buses can be transported on the main deck. Below the main deck there is one, above the main deck two further vehicle decks, the two vehicle decks above the main deck only extending over about half the length of the ship. The vehicle decks below and above the main deck were not suitable for the transport of trucks and buses due to their lower usable height. The main deck can be reached via a ramp behind a side-opening bow visor . Three ramps were available at the stern . The other vehicle decks were accessible from the main deck via internal ramps. A total of 984  meters of track were available. The ship could carry 500 cars or 80 trucks and 225 cars.

Above the vehicle decks on decks 4 to 9 there were facilities for the passengers, on decks 6 to 8 in the front area there were cabins and behind them there were public areas with restaurants, lounges, cinemas and conference rooms. On decks 4 and 5 there were cabins and areas with easy chairs in the forward area, while on deck 9 there were further cabins in the forward area. A total of 559 cabins with 1296 beds as well as 324 recliners and 108 loungers were available. The passenger capacity was 2100 people.

When the ship was converted in 2005, the passenger facilities on decks 4 and 5 and the upper of the two vehicle decks in the rear of the ship were removed. An additional continuous vehicle deck was set up on deck 4, on which trucks and buses can now also be transported. In addition, an additional, height-adjustable car deck was installed here. The conversion to 1,800 lane meters increased the capacity of the vehicle decks.

On the baking The approach to the deck 4 has been established with a bulkhead is closed. At the stern, the ramps were removed and replaced by two new ramps. The stern was also partially rebuilt and the ship was extended from 161.8 m to around 164.4 m in length. The ship can now carry 100 trucks or 400 cars.

The passenger facilities on decks 6 to 9 have been extensively rebuilt. Cabins and reclining chairs have been set up on deck 6. On decks 7 to 9, public areas were relocated to the front and the cabins to the rear of the ship.
