The city of San Carlos is located on the island of Negros , in the province of Negros Occidental . It is a second income city in the Philippines . The city was originally known as the settlement "Nabingkalan" and was renamed San Carlos in 1856. On June 1, 1960, it was granted city rights based on the Republic Act 2643.
The city of San Carlos is located on the east coast of the island of Negros. The tañon strait forms the eastern border of the urban area, comprising 451.5 square kilometers. It has an approximately 40 km long coastline, which is lined with sandy beaches and mangrove forests . Sipaway Island is off the coast of San Carlos City . The city has 132,536 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 18 barangays .
The main tourist attractions of San Carlos City are the Chocolate Hills of Negros , which have a similar relief to the Chocolate Hills on Bohol , the Mount Kanlaon Natural Park with an endemic flora and fauna and the balete tree on the island of Sipaway.
