Schonfeld or beautiful Feldt is an old Saxon - meißnisches noble family and is one of the historical nobility . As a patrician they sat on the eponymous Wasserburg Schloss Schonfeld in Schönfeld (Sachsen) . The first mention of the aristocratic residence and the Schönfeld family took place in 1216. Branches of this family still exist in Germany and Austria today.

They have no genealogical connection with the Bohemian noble family Schönfeld .

The first mention of the noble residence and the Schönfeld family took place on January 21, 1216. Tammo de Sconevelt witnessed the transfer of the Zedele ( Zadel ) estate with all the hooves in the village and the church of St. Andrew to the monastery cell of St. Mary ( Altzella Monastery near Nossen) by the Margrave Dietrich . A dominus Johannes de Sconeveld appears in Nuendorf ( Naundorf near Meißen) in 1240 . The tribe series begins in 1312 with the knight Siegfried von Schonvelt .

In 1645, Johann Theobald von Schönfeld was a member of the Fruit-Bringing Society under the name "Der Calming".

Lines and possessions

The von Schönfeldt and Schönfeld families sat at their headquarters in Schönfeld until 1421.

The five lines of the family were named after Wachau (owned by the family from 1378 to 1770), Löbnitz (before 1599 to 1945), Werben (1464 to 1945, written Schönfeldt ), Zahna and Gulben . The family also owned numerous estates in the Mark Meissen , in the province of Saxony and in Lusatia .

One line of the family turned to Sweden in 1625 , but went out there in 1784.

After the elevation to the imperial count status, the count's line (in Wachau) only existed for two generations until it expired in 1770. Two other, still existing lines (Löbnitz and Zahna) received the imperial count status in 1788 and exist to this day.

The noble family was raised to the rank of count in 1704 and 1788 .

Johann Siegfried Freiherr von Schönfeld auf Wachau was raised to the rank of imperial count on June 2, 1704 . In 1711 he received the office of inheritance of the bishopric of Bamberg . His widow Magdalena Sophie, b. Countess von Werthern , (1692–1757) had the baroque castle Wachau built for her son between 1730 and 1754. With the death of this son, Johann Georg Graf von Schönfeld (1718–1770), the count's line in the male line died out in 1770 .

On December 6, 1788, the Saxon Chamberlain and “Real Privy CouncilorJohann Hilmar Freiherr von Schönfeld received the dignity of Counts in Löbnitz, Störmthal and Liebertwolkwitz. This family came to Austria with him. Since July 18, 1788 he was married to Ursula Margaretha Agnes Victoria Ludovica Countess von Fries. Her descendants, who mostly pursued a military career, include:

  • Adolph Ludwig Moriz Graf von Schönfeld (born October 2, 1797), Knight of Honor of the Order of Malta
  • Anton Graf von Schönfeld (born April 26, 1827), Imperial Chamberlain and Lieutenant Colonel ret. D.
  • Karl Graf von Schönfeld (born April 18, 1828), Imperial and Royal Rittmeister
  • Adolph Graf von Schönfeld (born April 3, 1830), kk major a. D. in Leoben
  • Max Graf von Schönfeld (born December 5, 1833), Imperial and Royal Rittmeister
  • Heinrich Graf von Schönfeld (born September 5, 1868)

The "Family Association of Counts and Lords of Schönfeld", founded in Berlin on October 26, 1912, was re-established in Bad Nauheim on October 14, 1967.

The family coat of arms shows on gold a black branch lying diagonally to the right, three times truncated above and below. On the crowned helmet nine black cock feathers, 5 bent to the left and 4 to the right. The ceilings are black and gold.
