Bodenstein Castle
The Bodenstein Castle is situated on a plateau on the left rain side in Bodenstein , an eastern district of the Upper Palatinate town of Nittenau in district Schwandorf .
history
Bodenstein Castle was built in 1333/34. Bodenstein was founded by the Michelsberg family. The three-storey building encloses a small inner courtyard from which a simple castle chapel can be reached. Two oil paintings from the peasant saints Isidor and Leonhard should be mentioned of the furnishings. A two-bay stone bridge over the former moat separates the palace building from the spacious estate . In 1362 the brothers Christian and Otto von Michelsberg shared their property, Christian moved into the newly built castle, Otto stayed in Michelsberg . In 1364 Christian the Michelsberger first called himself "zu dem Podenstein" , which means that he built Bodenstein Castle and lived there.
The property later passed to the Notthracht family . In 1854, after numerous changes of ownership, the estate came to the Counts of Walderdorff from Schloss Molsberg , who sold Bodenstein in 1930 to their manager Dittmar.
Castle chapel
In 1525 a chapel dedicated to St. Martin is mentioned in Bodenstein Castle, which has a privileged altar by 1651 at the latest. It is possible that it is the St. Michael's Altar, which was mentioned as "damaged" in 1665. It seems that in the following period the church fell into disrepair, because in 1828/29 Baroness von Berchtolsheim built a chapel on her manorial estate in Bodenstein, which was consecrated in 1829 and received the patronage of Beatae Mariae Virginis.
