The Postal Stockenfels is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle in the district Fischbach of the Upper Palatinate town of Nittenau in the district of Schwandorf of Bavaria . The Burgstall is located 200 m north of the Stockenfels castle ruins .
description
A ridge extending north-south is divided into two knolls by a deep incision, presumably a former neck ditch , on the south lies the Stockenfels castle ruins, on the north the Stockenfels castle stalls. The north side connects to the hinterland over moderate slopes. A ditch running in a slight arch with a wall in front of the building secures access here in an east-west direction. In the south follows a second wall with an inner ditch; a narrow curved trench surrounds a low podium measuring 10 × 8 m in the northeast corner. The complex is interpreted as the forerunner of Stockenfels Castle or as an outwork of the castle.
