The Postal Old Thanstein is a Outbound hilltop castle on a hilltop at 635 m above sea level. NN above the district of Dautersdorf in the municipality of Thanstein in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf in Bavaria .
The castle, of which only a few reliable data are available, was built in the 13th century by the Lords of Tannstein as their ancestral seat. In 1218 a Uto von Tannstein was mentioned in a document . The Murachers are also named as other co-owners. At the beginning of the 14th century, the Tannsteiners moved their headquarters to Thannstein Castle .
The castle stable still shows traces that indicate the location of the tower and the building, surrounded by a moat that separates the deeper area of the castle and allows a small fountain to be seen there.
