Schmatowka ( Russian Шматовка , German Schwirgsden , 1938-1946 Royal Garden is) a place in the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast (region Königsberg (Prussia) ) and belongs to Krasnojarskoje selskoje posselenije (Town Krasnojarskoje ( Sodehnen )) in Ozyorsky District (District Darkehmen , 1938- 1946 Angerapp ).

Geographical location

Schmatowka is located on the Russian trunk road R 517 (section of the former German Reichsstrasse 137 ), which connects the two cities of Chernyachovsk ( Insterburg ) and Osjorsk ( Darkehmen , 1938-1946 Angerapp ). It is eleven kilometers to the district capital of Osjorsk. There is no rail connection.

history

The former Schwirgsden belonged on May 6, 1874 to the six rural communities that formed the newly established district of Kallnen (1938–1946 Drachenberg , since 1946: Novo-Gurjewskoje). Until 1945 he belonged to the district of Darkehmen (1939–1945 district of Angerapp ) in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

In 1818 the village had 137 inhabitants, the number of which rose to 191 by 1863, in 1907 it was 212, then 195 in 1925, 185 in 1933 and 179 in 1939.

On June 3, 1938 - officially confirmed on July 16, 1938 - Schwirgsden was given the new name "Königsgarten" for political and ideological reasons.

As a result of the Second World War , Königsgarten came under Soviet administration and in 1946 was renamed "Schmatowka". Until 2009 it was incorporated into the Sadowski soviet (Dorfsovjet Sadowoje ( Ballethen )), then due to a structural and administrative reform in the Kaliningrad Oblast as a "settlement" (possjolok) it came to the Krasnoyarskoje selskoje posselenije (rural municipality Krasnoyarskoje ( Sodehnen )) in the Osjorsk Raion .

church

Schwirgsden / Königsgarten was a parish with its predominantly Protestant population until 1945 in the parish Ballethen (Russian: Sadowoje). It was in the Darkehmen parish (1938–1946 Angerapp , since 1946: Osjorsk) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergyman was Pastor Joachim Großkreutz .

During the time of the Soviet Union , church life was forbidden. It was not until the 1990s that new Protestant congregations formed again in various places in the Kaliningrad Oblast. Schmatowka is incorporated into the church region ("church district") Gussew ( Gumbinnen ), which belongs to the - also newly founded - provost of Kaliningrad within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia (ELKER). The clergy responsible are those of the Salzburg Church in Gussew.
