history

The town of Ballethen, which was once divided into the towns of Klein and Groß Ballethen and probably also Escherischken due to increased settlement, had 224 inhabitants in 1818, the number of which had increased to 324 by 1863. In 1910 there were 375 people in the rural community and the manor district , and 337 in 1925, 462 in 1933 and 447 in 1939.

Until 1945, the official and church village of Ballethen belonged to the Darkehmen district (1938–1945 Angerapp district ) in the Gumbinnen district of the Prussian province of East Prussia . As a result of the Second World War , the place came under Soviet administration and became the seat of a village soviet. Since 2014 the place has belonged to the municipal self-government unit of the Osjorsk district .

church

Church building

The first Ballethen church, completed in 1599, was a simple wooden structure that had two bells very early on. In 1646 the building was replaced by a half-timbered church that stood until 1767.

The successor church withstood the Second World War . But then it was used for other purposes and razed to the ground in the 1970s. A baptismal font , which was made around 1767, still reminds of the church . He was discovered by chance in 1993 on a farm nearby where he had survived the post-war period as a bird bath . The font came to Germany and, after extensive restoration, was given its original purpose in the Trinity Church in Hamburg-Harburg .

In the branch village of Sodehnen (Russian: Krasnojarskoje) a church was inaugurated in 1934.

Parish

Ballethen has been a church village with a predominantly Protestant population since the end of the 16th century . At first it belonged to the Insterburg Inspection (today in Russian: Tschernjachowsk), until 1945 it was part of the Darkehmen church district (1938–1946 Angerapp , since 1946 Osjorsk ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . As early as 1913 there was a second pastor who took up residence in Sodehnen, but remained connected to the mother parish.

All church life was forbidden in the post-war period. In the 1990s, smaller evangelical congregations formed in many places in the Kaliningrad Oblast, such as Gussew ( Gumbinnen ), which is closest to Ballethen. It belongs to the newly established Kaliningrad provost in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia . The responsible rectory is that of the Salzburg Church in Gussew.

Until 1945, the parish of Ballethen belonged to a very extensive parish of almost 50 localities, in which in 1912 6,200 inhabitants lived and in which 15 schools with 20 teachers were located. In the parish were parish (* = school location):
