Details

The seal of the US state of Pennsylvania has a shield as its central object.

description

The shield contains a ship under full sail in the upper third, a plow in the middle and three bundles of wheat in the lower third.

These symbols represent the importance of trade, labor, perseverance, and agriculture to the state's economy, as well as some of its geographic parts ( for example, Philadelphia , the state's largest city, is represented by the ship).

On either side of the shield are a corn stalk and an olive branch; this represents the state's recognition of its past and its hopes for the future.

An eagle standing on the shield symbolizes the sovereignty of the state. The outer ring of the seal bears the words " Seal of the State of Pennsylvania ".
