Motto (motto) Fatti maschii, parole femine

The seal of the US state of Maryland was changed for the last time in 1969.

description

The Maryland seal shows a farmer and a fisherman holding a shield, the design of which can be found in the flag of Maryland . The design of the flag and seal is based on the colors of the house of George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore and is formed from the coats of arms of the Calvert and Crossland families, which made up the coat of arms of Lord Baltimore, the founder and former "owner" of the colony . Each branch of the family is represented by two quarters of the flag.

Under the sign is the motto of the state in old Italian :

"Fatti maschii, parole femine"
Masculine deeds, feminine words

Maryland is the only US state that has an Italian motto.

Around the seal is the year 1632 and the Latin motto:

"Scuto bonæ voluntatis tuæ coronasti nos"
You have crowned us with the shield of your goodwill.

This quote from the Latin Vulgate Bible translation is taken from Psalm 5 and reads as follows in the German translation:

“For you, Lord, bless the righteous; you crown them with grace as with a shield. "

The year 1632 commemorates Lord Baltimore, who was granted a cultivation license for the country in 1632 and named the area after Queen Henrietta Maria , wife of King Charles I.
