Motto (motto) United we stand, divided we fall

The State of Missouri Seal was designed by MP Robert William Wells and introduced on January 11, 1822.

description

In the center of the seal is a circular shield that is vertically divided into two parts.

On the right side is the Great Seal of the United States and on the left side are icons representing the state. In the lower part a grizzly bear is depicted, which is supposed to represent strength and courage, and in the upper part a crescent moon , which is supposed to represent the new statehood and the potential for growth.

All of these symbols are framed by the motto:

" United we stand, divided we fall. "

Two mighty grizzly bears, one on each side, support this shield. Below is a lettering that bears the Latin state motto:

" Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto. "
( The well-being of the people is the highest law. )

In addition, the year 1820 is written in Roman numerals under the lettering, although Missouri was not a sovereign state until 1821. The upper part of the seal is adorned with 24 white stars on a blue background, each representing a different state of the Union . Missouri represents the slightly larger star above the helmet .

On the outer circle of the seal are the words:

" The Great Seal of the State of Missouri "

The seal is also found in the center of the Missouri flag .
