Motto (motto) Hope

The seal of the US state of Rhode Island dates back to 1636.

description

The word Hope was placed on a tape above the anchor in 1644 , referring to a passage from the Bible in the Letter to the Hebrews :

“So by two promises that do not waver - for it is impossible for God to lie - we should have a strong consolation that we have taken our refuge in holding onto the hope offered. We have this as a secure and firm anchor for our soul, which also extends into the interior behind the curtain. "

- Hebrews , chapter 6, verses 18 & 19

On the outer ring of the seal is the words Seal of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation 1636 - the name of the former colony that was founded in 1636 .

history

The anchor can also be found on the almost square flag of Rhode Islands . It is a symbol that has stood for Rhode Island for centuries, even before the time when Rhode Island became a state .
