history

prehistory

At the beginning of the 19th century, the residents of Zamdorf belonged to the parish of Baumkirchen and visited the church of St. Veit auf dem Rasen, which stood between the districts of Zamdorf and Baumkirchen until it was demolished in 1805. The residents of Denning went to the Church of St. George or their Guardian Angel Chapel to pray. In 1923 the parish of St. Georg officially took over pastoral care in the outskirts of the east of Munich. On 31 October 1926 two kilometers was removed from Zamdorf the Franciscan -Pfarrei St. Gabriel built the Kuratie took the Zamdorfer from now on. With the construction of the colonial settlement , the population of Zamdorf rose rapidly during the National Socialist era . After the Second World War , from 1949 onwards, Father Harduin Brunner, who was sent by the St. George Church, held the services of the Zamdorf Catholics until 1955 in a large room of a former farmhouse set up as an emergency chapel at Eggenfeldener Straße 51, which can accommodate up to 40 people bot. This saved the residents from having to walk to St. Gabriel's Church.

After a donation of land by the Obermaier family, space was created for a new church on Eggenfeldener Straße. The church should have been built on the spot where the emergency chapel stood. However, the property was later exchanged so that the church could be built on Friedrich-Eckart-Straße. This met the ideas of the Archbishop's Ordinariate to build the church closer to the eastern settlement of Zamdorf. In 1953 it was decided to build the St. Klara pastoral care center. The church was built according to plans by the architect Raimund Thoma. The foundation stone for the construction of the church was laid in 1955. On August 12, 1956, St. Clare was consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Neuhäusler on the feast day of St. Clare . At the same time, Zamdorf was separated from the parish of St. Gabriel as a curate.

Development under Emil Chase and Günther Lipok

The Stöberl organ

The first pastor of St. Clare's Church was Emil Chase. On the initiative of Chase and several parishioners, the St. Klara kindergarten was opened in 1961, which was inaugurated by Prelate Oscar Jandel on June 3, 1962 together with the parish hall. After St. Klara became a curate in 1957, the church was elevated to a parish church on February 11, 1962. The consecration of the bells was celebrated on April 12, 1964 and in 1970 the church organ by Wilhelm Stöberl with 13 registers on two manuals and pedal was completed.

Chase was the pastor of St. Clare until his death on June 29, 1981. After his death the parish no longer received a full-time pastor. On April 1, 1982 Günther Lipok was appointed part-time pastor of St. Klara by Auxiliary Bishop Ernst Tewes . At the same time he continued to work full-time as a high school teacher. Since there was little attendance at the service on weekdays, Lipok tried to create a smaller prayer and meditation room. One such room was inaugurated on March 8, 1984 by Tewes as the Francis Chapel . The community paid for the design of the chapel itself.

In 1983 St. Clare also became active as an ecumenical movement . Until 1987 there was a visiting service for residents who had recently moved to the parish area. Since 1984 there have been mutual invitations between the neighboring parishes of St. Klara and the Evangelical Immanuel Church in Denning . The invitations were later extended to the churches of St. Emmeram in Englschalking and St. Rita in the Bogenhausen district . In 1986 a monthly, ecumenical prayer for peace, the later evening prayer, was introduced in the Church of St. Clare.

On July 27, 1986 it was suggested to rebuild the parish center. The decision to demolish the old parish hall was finally made by the following year. By decision of the archbishop's ordinariate, a parish center including an independent, new parish home was built by 1994 and a separate building for the kindergarten was added. This was also made possible by donations from private individuals who went to the Association for the Preservation and Promotion of the St. Klara Community Center Munich - Zamdorf eV . The foundation stone for the new parish center was laid on June 11, 1991 by Prelate Friedrich Fahr, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on October 24, 1991. On March 3, 1993, Prelate Ludwig Penger laid the foundation stone for a new kindergarten. Both the parish home and the kindergarten were built by the architects Georg and Katrin Küttinger. On April 18, 1994 the new kindergarten was occupied. This was inaugurated together with the parish on July 17, 1994 by Prelate Robert Simon . After completion, a protective wall was built between the complex and Friedrich-Eckart-Straße. Lipok was later given the name monsignor because of his activities in St. Clare . On August 30, 2006, almost 25 years after Lipok started working as a pastor in the Church of St. Clare, he retired.

Parish Association Bogenhausen-Süd

In September 2000 the Ordinariate of Munich and Freising published the position plan 2010. This provided for the plan, which was then implemented in autumn 2008, to merge St. Klara with the churches of St. Rita and St. Johann von Capistran to form the parish association Bogenhausen-Süd. The parish association was named after the Bogenhausen district in which the churches are located. After Lipok retired, Father Lutz Huebner took over the office of pastor for St. Clare, which was only temporarily suspended due to a conflict with the ordinariate. When it was announced that Huebner would be fired, protests broke out. Nevertheless, he was replaced by pastor Alois Ebersberger, who has been in charge of the Bogenhausen-Süd parish association since September 1st, 2008, after having been pastor in Oberschleißheim for 15 years .

description

location

The church is at Friedrich-Eckart-Straße 9 in the colonial settlement in Zamdorf . It was originally built in the middle of fields and meadows that have since been heavily built up. While the church bears the address of the street adjacent to the east, the rectory is located at Bennigsenstraße 6, which is west of the church. The houses of the colonial settlement stand around the church. The Bundesautobahn 94 is about 350 meters south of the church and the SV tower is about 500 meters south . Zamilapark is located half a kilometer east of the church . The same distance from the church is the Denning district in the north and Steinhausen in the west .

The church

The rose window of St. Clare is above the back entrance

The building was built in a simple style based on a Franciscan formal language and is modeled on the Basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi, Italy . The post-war alienated according Gertrud Burckhardt in its simplicity many churchgoers. At the rear of the building there is a rose window above the entrance . It is reminiscent of a Gothic church as well as churches in Assisi and fills the church interior with light in the late afternoon. There is an open wooden roof truss on the ceiling .

Above the high altar hangs a large tapestry designed by Alfred Schöpffe , which shows Jesus Christ risen and with his arms outstretched. Below him stand the five wise and foolish virgins who look to Christ. The virgin, slightly separated in the picture, represents Clare. Schöpffe is also responsible for the side altar with a tabernacle . The consecrated hosts are kept in it. Schöpffe also created the doors, a pietà that hangs to the right of the worship cross, and a resurrection painting on the back wall of the church. Next to the tabernacle is the Eternal Light Angel created by Franz Brunnhuber, who holds a round disc in his hand. The sun, moon and stars are depicted on the front of the crossbar. The four symbols of the Evangelists are shown on the reverse .

With a processional pole created by Ferdinand Filler , which is located between the side altar and the ambo , reference is made to an event in the life of St. Clare, in which she confronted the Saracens with a monstrance . The Saracens wanted to penetrate their monastery and loot it. This could be prevented by Klara's intervention. In the back of the church there is a second processional pole created by Filler, which shows St. Francis who has placed a tree trunk turned into a candlestick on himself. A scene in which Francis rebuilds the city of San Damiano is shown in an offering box carved from an apple tree trunk by Anton Span in the central aisle . Span also carved the lecture cross to the right of the ambo , which was later cast in metal. He also made the statue of Klara at the right side entrance, which was made from olive wood that comes from Assisi.

On the opposite side of the tabernacle hang 14 panels made of terracotta by Franz Brunnhuber , showing the suffering of Jesus Christ. The baptismal font made by Hans Vogel can be found in a niche in the back of the church . Next to the cross there is usually a figure of Mary above the sacrificial candle holders , which comes from the Guardian Angel Chapel of St. Georg in Denning, a former branch church of the Bogenhausen parish on old Daglfinger Strasse, which was destroyed in World War II. The figure of the Virgin, presumably from the 15th or 16th century, was restored before it came to St. Clare. Every year in May the figure is moved to the chancel. A figure depicting the risen Christ was also taken over from the destroyed chapel on old Daglfinger Strasse.

Francis Chapel

The Francis Chapel was set up in the former coal cellar and storage room of the main church under the presbytery in the tower area. Behind the altar is the Francis Cross , which shows a triumphant Jesus. It is a replica of the original Franciscan Cross that is in the Basilica of Santa Chiara . To the left of the entrance is a copy of the oldest picture of Francis that was made during his lifetime. Next to it is another work that was created by Alfred Schöpffe. The picture shows excerpts from the life of Klara. An image of Mary was placed to the right of the tabernacle. The tabernacle, like the sculpture Ewiges Licht and a holy water kettle, which commemorates the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan , was created by Max Faller . He also made the fountain in the courtyard of St. Clare. The chapel has two glass windows created by Helmut Kästle. They show Clare and Francis.

Rectory, parsonage, kindergarten and courtyard

The fountain with a bronze column in the courtyard

The parish hall was originally in the same building as the kindergarten . The building was built in three parts, two parts belonging to the kindergarten and one part to the parish hall. The kindergarten and the rectory were separated by a glass door; There were entrances to both parts of the building. In 1994 the kindergarten moved to a newly constructed, three-part building a few meters south of the parish hall. Due to the extension buildings, St. Klara not only consists of a church, but also has a parish hall to the south-east of the church and its own kindergarten to the south-west of the parish hall. There is also a rectory at the Church of St. Klara.

In the middle of the area is an atrium-like inner courtyard, which is formed from the church, the rectory, the kindergarten and the rectory. In the middle of the courtyard stands the Klara fountain created by the sculptor Max Faller. In the fountain basin is a bronze column cast by the Alois Reitmaier company. Seven different scenes with Saint Francis and Saint Clare are worked into the column itself. The fountain has eight jets from which water can get into the stone basin.

Use and clubs

The entire area of the St. Klara Church is used for different purposes. In addition to various church services, there is a church choir as well as a children and youth choir from the start.

The parish home and kindergarten built in 1962 have been used for the corresponding purposes ever since. There has also been a toddler group since 1987 . Furthermore, youth groups have been active there since 1956 and a little later also senior groups.

Since October 1986 the parish has been doing charitable work for countries in the Third World with the 3rd World Kist'l, which is mainly supported by young people . The association was founded at a time when fair trade was important to the public. In November 1990 the association was registered at the Munich District Court . After donations fell sharply at the beginning of the 2000s, the association dissolved in 2003 and was taken over by the church administration. A social development association has also been active in the parish of St. Klara since 1986, as has a building development association that was founded in 1989 and is committed to maintaining and promoting the St. Klara community center.
