The Stockholm-Skavsta airport is one of four airports in the region around the Swedish capital Stockholm . It is located about 100 km southwest of Stockholm near Nyköping in the province of Södermanland near European route 4 .
history
The Nyköping Air Base, which has existed since 1940, was used by the "F 11 Nyköping" air reconnaissance squadron until June 30, 1980 and then served as a standby airfield. On September 23, 1984, the airfield was reopened as a civil airport under the direction of the municipality of Nyköping. In order to promote further development, it was decided in 1998 to sell 90% of the shares in the airport company. The British operating company TBI plc acquired this and significantly expanded the infrastructure with the corresponding capital. The first airport hotel opened in 2008. In 2011 the airport received a new access road and new parking facilities. This is an attempt to cope better with the increasing number of passengers. The airport apron and the parking areas for aircraft will also be fundamentally renewed. In 2012 the terminal was converted to create more space for the security and retail areas.
getting there
The airport buses of the company Flygbussarna run about every 30 minutes without stopping to the Stockholm bus station ( Cityterminalen ) at the main train station. The journey takes about 80 minutes. There is also a line to Linköping with an intermediate stop in Norrköping with six to seven departures per day. The offer was at times considerably larger. The route from Gullmarsplan was approached several times a day. The company also tried a route to Örebro via Arboga , Malmköping and Eskilstuna for around two years , but it failed to make any profits and was discontinued in September 2009.
At times, the provider FlyByCoach competed on the route to Stockholm, which depressed travel prices considerably. The traffic was stopped again in mid-April 2010.
The Swedish Railways SJ has an hourly connection from Nyköping to Stockholm. There is a connection to Nyköping train station by two bus routes (515 and 715), which serve the airport approximately every 30 minutes.
Airlines and Destinations
Ryanair (partly under the name of the subsidiary Laudamotion ) and Wizz Air fly to the airport regularly. Various charter companies, u. a. TUI Nordic, mainly serve the Canary Islands, Turkey and now and then Thailand.
Ryanair also operated a base until the 2020 summer flight schedule and most recently had four aircraft stationed there. Wizz Air flies to several Central and Eastern European destinations.
