Fährhofstraße (Franconia / Frankenvorstadt)

Today's Fährhofstrasse was originally called the Vorhof. However, in the course of time, various town clerks turned this forecourt into a ferry yard, probably out of ignorance of its former importance. However , there was never a ferry near this road.

Fährstraße (old town / old town or bastion belt)

The Fährstraße , 1270 already mentioned in a document, one of the oldest streets of Stralsund. It leads from the old market to the port , from where the ferry service to Rügen took place. Hence the name Fährstraße comes from. At the end of the ferry road there was once the ferry gate and the outer ferry gate; In 1874 the ferry gate was torn down. The birth houses of Carl Wilhelm Scheeles and Dr. Heinrich Kruses . Ferdinand von Schill died on May 31, 1809 in Fährstrasse . The merchant Johann Wiechmann also lived here in the 1850s, and from here he sent his pickled herring to Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and received permission from him to name his product Bismarck herring . The pub "Zur Fähre" at the end of Fährstrasse (first mentioned in 1332) is the oldest on the European continent and the third oldest (after two bars in Wales and Ireland ) in Europe.

Filterstrasse (old town / old town)

The filter road was first mentioned in 1325. It was named after the craft of felters ( Low German : Vilter), who made the felt necessary for the manufacture of headgear . Only the section between Böttcherstrasse and Papenstrasse was already called Filterstrasse before 1869, but it was also named Bodelstrasse or Büttelstrasse and Fronereienstrasse after the executioner who lived here .

The section between Heilgeiststrasse and Böttcherstrasse was called Altböterstrasse until 1310 ; the old boats were craftsmen who mended old shoes (old boats).

The section between Papen- and Langenstraße was called Vergüldete Straße until 1869 . This was a paraphrase for a brothel alley .

Finkenweg (Lüssower Berg / Am Lüssower Berg)

Named after the finch . Most of the streets in this neighborhood are named after native bird species.

Frankendamm (old town / bastion belt or Franconia / Franconian suburb)

The city gates of Stralsund could only be reached via dams . These were named after the direction in which they ran from Stralsund, or after the district that was the starting point. The Frankendamm ran through the Stralsund area called Franconia . Its current shape was created by grinding the fortifications after the end of Stralsund's fortress times. Like the other streets and districts with the Franconian part of the name , it was not the Franks as a tribe that gave it its name, but a rich merchant family called Vranko or Franconia . After this family from the later Frankenstrasse (the family lived at the beginning of this street, which justified the name after it), other streets, such as Frankendamm and even urban areas, were named in the course of time.

The Frankendamm has officially had this name only since 1869. However, this path was known as dammno vranconis as early as 1317 . Before 1869 the relatively wide street was called Am Landwege . The section between the city center and the slaughterhouse was called Frankenkronwerk until 1953 . From November 7, 1953 to November 16, 1961, the entire street was named after Stalin Josef-W.-Stalin-Strasse .

It was given its current name Frankenwall between 1951 and 1976 - precise details are no longer possible.

Franz-Schubert-Straße (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt or Knieper Nord)

Named after the German composer Franz Schubert . However, there is no direct connection to Stralsund .

Franz-Wessel-Strasse (Franconia / Frankenvorstadt)

Named after Franz Wessel , who was Mayor of Stralsund from 1541 until his death . During his tenure and with his participation, the first library was founded in Stralsund that was accessible to everyone. He also promoted the Reformation and stood up for the poorer sections of the population.

Franzburger Weg (Tribseer / Tribseer settlement)

Named after the town of Franzburg in the Vorpommern-Rügen district .

Franzenshöhe (Franconia / Middle Franconia or Franconian settlement)

Franziska-Tiburtius-Strasse (Knieper / Knieper Nord)

Named after the German doctor Franziska Tiburtius . Born on the island of Rügen , she was one of the first doctors in Germany and campaigned for the ban on women to study. She completed her school education in Stralsund.

Free Lands (green hooves / Free Lands)

The street Freienlande is the main street leading through the Stralsund district of the same name.

Friedrich-Engels-Straße (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt or Tribseer / Tribseer Vorstadt)

Before 1869 this street belonged to the way to the Hainholze . From 1869 the section between Knieperdamm and the bridge over the Knieperteich was renamed Teichstraße , in 1938 the section between the bridge and the Jungfernstieg , which was previously called the Alter Jungfernstieg, was added to the Teichstraße.

In 1946 the Teichstrasse in Friedrich-Engels-Strasse was named in honor of the German politician , philosopher and entrepreneur Friedrich Engels . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.

Friedrich-List-Strasse (Tribseer / Tribseer Vorstadt)

Named after the German economist Friedrich List . He was committed to the development of the German railroad and is considered one of the pioneers of the German Customs Union . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.

Friedrich-Loennies-Weg (Knieper / Knieper North)

Friedrich-Naumann-Strasse (Knieper / Kniepervorstadt)

This street was first mentioned in the mid-1920s as Hohe-Ufer-Straße . The name is due to the location near the Strelasund . On March 8, 1946, the street was renamed in recognition of the efforts of the theologian and politician Friedrich Naumann for peace. There is no direct connection to Stralsund.

Friedrich-Stellwagen-Weg (Knieper / Knieper West)

Named after the German organ builder Friedrich Stellwagen from Lübeck . In the 17th century he was primarily active in northern Germany. The Stellwagen organ in the Marienkirche Stralsund is considered to be his most important work .

Friedrich-Wolf-Strasse (Knieper / Knieper West)

Named after the German writer and doctor Friedrich Wolf . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.

Fritz-Reuter-Strasse (Franconia / Frankenvorstadt)

Named after the Low German writer Fritz Reuter . There is no direct connection to Stralsund.

Fuchsweg (Tribseer / Tribseer settlement)

Named after the local fox . Many streets in this part of the city are named after animals.
