In the United States alone, the album sold 182,000 copies, of which 128,000 units were sold from traditional recordings. This makes Suicide Squad: The Album the best-selling soundtrack in the United States since the official album for the film Fifty Shades of Gray, which sold more than 200,000 copies at the time. This allowed the album Drakes Views - which had previously dominated the US charts for weeks - and Skillets Uprising to relegate to places two and three respectively. Suicide Squad: The Album climbed to number one in the US album charts . The soundtrack reached number two in the United Kingdom and number three in Switzerland . In Germany and Austria , Suicide Squad entered 9th place. The soundtrack also reached number one in Australia , Canada and New Zealand .

The main single Heathens of the duo twenty one pilots went into several international single charts, although the song was "leaked" before the actual release and Atlantic Records tried to locate the person with a lawsuit on the Reddit website after they denied the IP address to release the affected user. The song reached chart listings in Austria , Germany , the United Kingdom , the United States and Switzerland . In Australia and New Zealand , the single received gold for 15,000 and 35,000 units sold respectively, and silver in the UK for 200,000 music sales.

The song Sucker for Pain by Wiz Khalifa , Lil Wayne and Imagine Dragons also hit international charts. Purple Lamborghini by Dubstep -DJ Skrillex and Rick Ross also entered the singles charts internationally, including in Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States . Gangsta , the fourth single, this time Kehlani made chart entries in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Press reviews

Entertainment Weekly's Maria Sherman wrote that the concept of the film and the accompanying soundtrack showed that comic book readers would love the bad guys. The soundtrack is a compilation of cross-genre and surprising collaborations by various musicians. The cover versions of Leslie Gores You Don't Own Me and Queens Bohemian Rhapsody are sometimes better than their original versions. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic was largely unimpressed by the composition of the songs. Despite the presence of twenty one pilots , whom the author describes as the rock band of 2016, he calls the soundtrack a musical throwback. All in all, the heart of the album is manicured chaos mixed with a lot of shine and volume.

Toni Hennig from the German online music magazine Laut.de scrutinized every song on the album and was of the opinion that most of the pieces were successful and in some cases even had hit potential. He described the collaboration between Skrillex and Rick Ross as daring, but due to its synth passages, the drop bass from Skrillex and the aggressive flow, the piece turned into a banger. He also describes the collaboration of several rappers such as Lil Wayne and Ty Dolla Sign with the rock band Imagine Dragons as unusual. The rappers complement each other well and the part of Imagine Dragons can also be heard. The song Without Me , published by Eminem in 2002 , has a leading role in the film, but is rather a foreign body in the soundtrack. The bohemian Rhapsody cover by Panic! at the Disco comes across successfully due to the choir passages and the driving drums, even if Brendon Urie puts a lot of bombast into the song. Only the Bee Gees cover I Started a Joke could have been left out, according to the author. All in all, the soundtrack is a successful mixture of rap , hip-hop , R&B , pop and rock music with a few cool classics. However, like the film, the soundtrack provides entertaining action without any further depth.
