Regionalliga Südwest, after the club was second class for decades, occasionally first class. Langen is involved in the Rhein-Main Baskets syndicate in the 2nd women's basketball league . The third pillar of the association is intensive youth development.
overview
TV Langen in Langen , Hesse , about 15 km south of Frankfurt am Main , was founded in 1862 and is the city's oldest association. Today it has around 2,400 members who play sports in 14 departments.
Several men's and women's teams take part in the league for TV Langen. In cooperation with TV Hofheim, the women no longer take part in the 1st Bundesliga of the DBBL as Rhein-Main Baskets . In the youth sector, every age group is promoted - sometimes in several parallel teams. The figurehead is the male U19, who plays in the youth basketball league (NBBL).
History men's team
Under the direction of the coaching team Jochen Kühl / Rainer Tobien, the Langen men's team rose to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time in 1978 as champions of the regional league. There the final of the promotion round was promptly reached in the first season of 78/79, which was lost 80:82 against Eintracht Frankfurt.
1981 succeeded under the US coach Paul Hallgrimson the first promotion to the 1st Bundesliga: Although they were in the final table of the promotion round in second place with the USC Heidelberg and actually missed the move to the "upper house", but because of the With the withdrawal of the Bundesliga club Hamburger TB, the German Basketball Association set an additional round of promotion, in which not only Langen but also FC Schalke 04 and SpVgg Ludwigsburg took part. The TVL prevailed with two wins and thus rose to the first division. In the game year 1981/82, however, the direct relegation from the Bundesliga followed. In 1982 the American Frank DiLeo became the team's new head coach and remained in office until the separation at the beginning of 1984. Then he was replaced by Jürgen Barth , who increasingly withdrew as a player due to injury problems and instead took over the position of coach. In the spring of 1985, Barth managed to return to the 1st Bundesliga, where the team played until relegation in 1988. The TVL stayed in the second division for only one year and rose again in 1989 to the top German division. In 1990 it went back to the 2nd Bundesliga. The "back and forth" between the leagues continued: Before the 90/91 season, coach Barth resigned for professional reasons, but remained with the club as manager. His successor on the bench was Alan Lambert, who brought the team back to the 1st Bundesliga in the spring of 1991. However, it did not succeed in staying in the league, in the 1991/92 season there was the next relegation and thus the return to the 2nd Bundesliga. From then on, the TVL was a regular guest in the "second class". Until 2010, the team played in the second Bundesliga and sat there at the top of the so-called eternal table. In 2010 he was relegated to the third-class 2nd Bundesliga ProB . In the 2015/16 season, relegation to the 1st regional league had to be accepted.

Youth area
The self-chosen leitmotif is From the TVL youth to the national leagues . TV Langen wants to challenge and encourage young players individually so that they can become excellent team players. In the past 30 years, Langen has repeatedly used youngsters from his own youth in the Bundesliga teams. Several current national players (also) played for TV Langen in their youth.
The U12 work begins at the age of five. The aim is to introduce as many children as possible to the sport of basketball. Talent teams and popular sports teams are only separated from the age of U14. The boundaries between the groups are fluid. Young players who are underutilized in their home clubs are integrated into the talent teams.
The funding takes place in cooperation with the basketball associations, the basketball part-time boarding school (BTI) and the Dreieich school sports center.
In the youth field, the different teams have won eight German championship titles and there have been numerous other finals. These championships are spread over a period of 30 years and are a sign of continuity in youth work. On March 29, 2006, TV 1862 Langen received the Green Ribbon for exemplary promotion of talent in the association during the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of this award. Like the other two clubs awarded there, their talents have been continuously promoted in a special way and thus outstanding successes have been achieved in their sporting disciplines.
