On June 22nd, 2017 it was announced that the light novel and manga series by the author Aneko Yusagi ( ア ネ コ ･ ユ サ ギ ) were being converted into an anime . About two weeks later it was announced that Crunchyroll would simulcast the series outside of Japan on a worldwide basis.
Takao Abo ( 阿 保 ･ 孝 雄 ) develops the series as a director at Kinema Citrus , while Masahiro Suwa ( 諏 訪 ･ 真 弘 ), as animation director, animates the character designs created by Seira Minami ( 弥 南 せ い ら ). Kevin Penkin composed the music to be heard in the series, which was produced by Hiromitsu Iijima ( 飯 島 ･ 弘光 ) and Shunichi Uemura ( 植 村 ･ 俊 一 ).
During the Crunchyroll Expo on September 1, 2019, it was announced that the anime will have both a second and a third season.
On May 14, 2020, Crunchyroll Germany announced that The Rising of the Shield Hero would receive a German dubbed version and will be shown on TNT Comedy from July 16 . Since the broadcast takes place shortly after midnight, it is counted on the television day of the previous day.

| The 20-year-old student and Otaku Naofumi Iwatani finds a " Chronicle of the Four Sacred Weapons" while rummaging through the public library and flips through this book. When he finds blank pages in the chapter on the shield , he is teleported as one of four heroes into a new world similar to a computer role-playing game . The other three heroes are Motoyasu Kitamura ("Hero of the Spear "), Ren Amaki ("Hero of the Sword ") and Itsuki Kawasumi ("Hero of the Bow "). It turns out that all four heroes come from parallel worlds . They are supposed to save this world from regularly occurring "monster waves". It is rumored in the kingdom that Naofumi - the "hero of the shield" - is the "weakest" of the four heroes, so that no one wants to join him as a companion. Myne, who initially joined the spear hero, offers to accompany the hero of the shield. That evening, she steals all of Naofumi's equipment and money and accuses him of rape . Naofumi's attempts to defend himself are ignored by both the king and the other heroes, so that he leaves the court bitter and angry . Only Erhart, the armorer, realizes that Naofumi is innocent. He learns how to strengthen his shield using resources found in the world. One evening after he chased away a band of robbers who tried to rob him, he realizes that he can never get stronger without being able to gain experience points. Beloukas, the slave trader , invites Naofumi to accompany him to his slave market, as he can help him with his dilemma. | ||||||||

| While the slave trader Naofumi, who has a bad reputation in the kingdom due to the false accusations, offers a strong wolf man as a slave, the latter refuses and instead buys the much cheaper "Demi" girl Raphtalia as a slave. The slave trader attaches a slave seal to her body , which prevents her from betraying Naofumi and which gives both of them experience points after fights through the alliance. Raphtalia, who suffered trauma from the loss of her parents during the first wave and constantly struggles with nightmares, finds it difficult to kill other monsters at first. The two set off for the nearest village of Lute to mine valuable ore in the local ore mine . They are attacked by a strong, two-headed dog monster. Naofumi is wounded and Raphtalia, who lost her parents to a similar monster, is petrified. Naofumi, realizing Raphtalia's fear of the monster, offers her to flee while he gives her the time to escape. By confronting her fear, she takes courage and kills the monster. | While the shield hero and his companion Raphtalia prepare for the next wave, Naofumi unlocks some new skills with unique additional functions of his holy weapon. Raphtalia has transformed into a young woman due to her rapid level increases. To find out when the next wave in the world is coming , the two visit the dragon hourglass in the "Church of the Three Heroes", where Naofumi meets the other three heroes. Raphtalia wonders why the other heroes loathe Naofumi, who refuses to tell her what happened. The next day the wave kicks in and the four heroes are teleported to the scene near Lute. While the other three heroes rush to the core of the monster wave, Naofumi and Raphtalia decide to protect the village and evacuate its inhabitants . A couple of royal knights arrive in the village to help, disregarding the shield hero's orders. Only a small part of the knights, who notice that Naofumi wants to save the inhabitants, decide to support him, while the commander sets off with other knights to the core of the wave and defeats it. After the fight, the villagers thank the hero of the shield. The kite hourglass turns and heralds the time until the arrival of the next wave. | ||||||||

| To celebrate the fending off of the second wave, King Aultcray invites the knights and the four heroes to a festive banquet , which Naofumi is reluctant to attend. Myne reports to the spear hero Motoyasu that Raphtalia is a slave of Naofumi and challenges him to challenge the hero of the shield to a duel in order to free her from her slave existence . Naofumi refuses, but the king interferes, takes Raphtalia into custody and agrees to the duel between the two heroes. Despite the Spear Hero's much higher level, the various abilities of the shield give Naofumi an advantage. When Naofumi is about to win the fight, Myne obviously interferes with the duel with wind magic , whereby the shield hero loses it. When the King reveals Myne to be his daughter, Princess Malty , the shocked hero of the Shield realizes that he was doomed from the start. When Raphtalia's seal is loosened, the shield reacts to Naofumi's wrath and then unlocks the "Wrath" series. Before the anger Naofumi consumed Raphtalia missed the hero of the spear a slap and condemned this as he had only thought they knew she wanted to be released from the seal. When the other two heroes enter the arena, they condemn Malty for intervening in the fight, visibly angry that the king approves of this interference. Raphtalia returns to Naofumi and swears her loyalty to Naofumi again, causing the series of anger to withdraw. The next morning Naofumi receives a sandwich prepared by Raphtalia from leftovers from the banquet and has been able to taste something again for a long time. | ||||||||

| In an unknown country, a black figure informs the queen about the botched duel between the two heroes. Meanwhile, the king awards the four heroes their reward for fending off the last wave. Naofumi and Raphtalia decide to visit the slave trader to have their slave seal renewed at their request. Meanwhile, Naofumi buys a monster egg from the dealer, from which a "Filolial", a bird-like monster, later hatches. Naofumi baptizes her "Filo". Within a few days, Filo took on its full-blown form. When the shield hero visits the village of Lute, he is shocked and angry at the appearance of Motoyasu and Malty, who explain that the village will be made the domain of the spear hero on the king's orders and that the residents will pay horrific road tolls in the future . Naofumi, who is aware of the villagers' financial situation, tries to intervene before the queen's subordinates show up to deliver a message to Malty. Angry about its contents, she asks Naofumi to fight Motoyasu in a race, the winner of which the village receives. At first Naofumi refuses, but decides to hold a race after the spear hero is kicked away by Filo. Naofumi competes with Filo against Motoyasu and his kite. Knights of the royal army try to use magic to slow down the hero of the shield. Still, he wins the race against the hero of the spear. Malty, who refuses to accept the result, is convicted by the subordinates of the queen of deception, whereupon she leaves the scene together with the spear hero. On the way out of Lute, Naofumi and Raphtalia decide to stop for the night. The next morning they are surprised to find that Filo has transformed into a little girl with a wing. | ||||||||

| Together with Filo, who has now been transformed into a girl, the Schildheld and Raphtalia make their way to the armourer Erhart to get Filo suitable clothes. Erhart refers the group to a seamstress who is able to make magical clothing for Filo. However, since she has no magic thread at her disposal, she sends Naofumi and his companions to the owner of a magic shop. This indicates that she needs a special stone to make the magic thread so that she can use her spindle . While Naofumi is escorting a trader , they are ambushed by a group of bandits . Naofumi can defeat them. When they say that they have no punishment to fear because no one would believe the hero of the shield, this Filo orders the robbers to eat up, whereby they retract their claims and in return for sparing their lives, give Naofumi all of their prey. The dealer is impressed by Naofumi's skill, instructs him in new skills in jewelry manufacturing and finishing and establishes contacts with other dealers. With a dealer badge in their luggage, which frees Naofumi from all road tolls, the hero of the shield, his two companions and the magician set off to a mine to mine the magical stone they are looking for. In the mine they find a treasure chest with the warning about a magical seed that was sealed by its creator, whereby the seed has already disappeared from the chest. The group fights through the tunnels to the cave in which the magic stones can be found, which is guarded by a manticore . Together they manage to defeat the guardian and mine the stone. Once at the magic shop, the owner inserts the magic stone into the spindle and Filo spins the threads using her own mana so that the seamstress can make a magical dress for Filo. | ||||||||

| The trader orders the hero of the shield and his companions to bring a herbicide into a village in order to curb an overgrowth that has got out of control. In the village they learn that the hero of the spear has taken the cursed seed from the treasure chest and used it in the village to end a famine . However, the plant's growth got out of hand. The mutated plant began to attack and infest the village and its inhabitants. They ask Naofumi, the "saint of the heavenly bird", for help. Naofumi, Raphtalia and Filo manage to destroy the monster plant and then begin to collect the sprouted seeds. With one of his shield skills, Naofumi succeeds in changing the genetic material of the seeds and plants one of these genetically modified seeds. This soon begins to grow vigorously, but does not take on a monstrous form of mutation. The group takes part of the remaining seeds as reward and sells them for profit. The merchant sends the hero of the shield to a seaside resort to deliver goods . Filo and Raphtalia want to relax in the onsen , so the group decides to spend the night there. Raphtalia becomes jealous when she notices that Filo and Naofumi are taking a bath in the onsen together. By chance she learns that a "Gagocco" bird is guarding a special "Latium" stone in its nest in the local mountains. She sneaks out of the room at night to get this stone for Naofumi. On the way there she is surprised by Filo who has also snuck out. She is also looking for the gagocco bird, but because of its tasty eggs as a delicacy for Naofumi. You are attacked by a silver-haired boar on the way . When they find the said gagocco bird, the boar thwarts their plans, so that both the stone and the eggs are broken. Filo and Raphtalia kill the boar, which turns out to be a rarer “Silver Razorback”, and sell it at a high price to two interested dealers. Filo and Raphtalia use the money to buy a tool as a gift for Naofumi. Upon departure, they happened to hear that there was an epidemic and a shortage of medicine in the east , and they made their way there. | ||||||||

| When the group found out about a village that was ravaged by an epidemic on their way east , they decided to visit that village. Once there, Naofumi heals the sick. Naofumi learns that the plague is triggered by a dragon who was defeated and killed by the sword hero Ren and whose carcass was left to rot on the spot , whereupon monsters have flocked around the dead dragon. Knowing the cause of the plague, the hero of the shield, Raphtalia and Filo make their way to the dragon's corpse to dispose of it. This resurrects the dragon and a fight ensues in which Filo is swallowed by the zombie dragon. Believing that Filo has died, Naofumi's wrath arouses the rage of his shield, the flames of which can repel the attacks of the zombie, but Naofumi increasingly loses control of himself. When he thinks back to his senses, he notices that Raphtalia is lying on the ground behind him while trying to bring him back to his senses. To his surprise, Filo, believed to be dead, emerges from the undead dragon's stomach and hands Naofumi a piece of the magical crystal that kept the dragon alive. Naofumi allows the piece of crystal to be absorbed by the shield, but he cannot use the newly unlocked skills due to his level being too low. Back in the village, he learns that Raphtalia's condition from the curse of the shield of anger can only be cured with the help of pure holy water from the church in the capital of the kingdom. | ||||||||

| On the way back to the capital to buy holy water against Raphtalia's curse, the group meets the noble girl Melty, who is also on the way to the capital to clarify an urgent matter, but lost sight of her entourage have. She asks Naofumi to take her to the capital. Once there, the ways separate. Filo decides to accompany her new friend Melty home while Naofumi goes to the church to get the holy water for the healing of the curse. In the church, a nun tries to deceive Naofumi with inferior holy water, whereupon she is reprimanded by the Pope . The Pope promises him high quality holy water after Naofumi has examined the first holy water with the analysis skill of his shield. In the city, the hero of the shield meets Motoyasu, who knows about Filo and thinks that like Raphtalia she is a slave of Naofumi, not knowing that she is his filolial bird. After Naofumi has refused Filo's release, the hero of the spear attacks Naofumi with Malty's permission in the middle of the city. In the middle of the fight, Melty steps in and forbids any further combat action by the two heroes. Filo, who remembers the insults Motoyasu when she was in her Filolial form, gives him another big kick. In the shop of the armorer Elharts, Melty identifies herself as the heir to the throne of the King of Melromarc. Before she is able to communicate her request to Naofumi, the latter expresses his distrust of the royal family and rejects her request. | ||||||||

| Melty, who is called back by her father, recalls her mother's promise to reprimand the king for his unfair attitude towards the hero of the shield, ignorant that this is a test of her mother. Naofumi meets a small group consisting of residents of the village of Lute, who want to support Naofumi in the fight during the next wave out of thanks for the rescue of the village and its residents. He makes the group collect 150 silver coins and pay him to prove their loyalty to him. Meanwhile, Naofumi learns that he, Raphtalia and Filo are ready for a "class upgrade", which would result in an increase in the level limit , but a royal decree prohibits the shield hero from using the dragon hourglass Melromarcs. They seek advice from the slave trader Beloukas, who advises them to use the dragon hourglass in the Kingdom of Schildfrieden. However, the arrival of the next wave of monsters stands in the way of the project. While surveying other cities, Naofumi meets people in need who have fled a revolution started by the arch hero Itsuki . Back in the capital, awaiting the next wave, Naofumi meets the two heroes Ren and Itsuki in the tavern, who accuse him of collecting their rewards. Naofumi tells the two of them that Itsuki's revolution has only brought about a new, equally corrupt government and that Ren’s carelessness with regard to the dragon has caused a plague. Ren, seeing the injured Raphtalia, begins to believe Naofumi, while Itsuki remains convinced that the hero of the shield is telling lies . Later Naofumi meets Elhart, who gives Naofumi improved equipment, as well as the group from Lute, who wants to give Naofumi 150 silver coins. Naofumi accepts the group as companions in the fight against the monster wave and instructs them to use the money to get better equipment, as the wave will arrive within the next 24 hours. | ||||||||

| Shortly before the start of the third wave, Naofumi equips Filo and Raphtalia with the magical jewelry they have made themselves, a mana- regenerating bangle and speed-increasing hair clip , confirms the group of Lute as companions with the knight Ake as group capitan and increases the supply of resources. After the wave has started, Ake's group begins to evacuate the people from the threatened area, while the hero of the shield and his companion fight the monsters. Naofumi recognizes an older woman whom he previously healed, how she defeats various monsters with ease and turns out to be a former adventurer . Meanwhile three hours have passed and the wave is still active, so Naofumi, Raphtalia and Filo set off together to the boss of the wave, while the others continue to evacuate the villagers. The other heroes try in vain to fetch a flying ghost ship from the sky. Naofumi arrives on the battlefield and criticizes the remaining heroes for their ineffectiveness and disagreement. Raphtalia recognizes the boss as a gigantic soul eater . Since the attacks of the heroes and their companions turn out to be ineffective, Naofumi decides to use the angry shield, but the angry ghost of the dead dragon, which Naofumi has integrated into his equipment, tries to control it, whereupon Naofumi uses the "berserk armor" “And Filo, who has swallowed a piece of the dragon's crystal, goes into a frenzy . Raphtalia advises the other heroes not to interfere in the fight. Naofumi and Filo attack the soul eater together. Naofumi remembers the promise to save the people of this world and regains control over his body. He catches the boss in his guilty prison and defeats it with his new ability " Iron Maiden ". Shortly thereafter, a second soul eater appears, but is struck by magical lightning and immediately defeated. A woman with a black kimono and two war fans introduces herself as Glass and reveals herself to be the real opponent of this wave. | ||||||||

| Glass defeats the other three heroes with ease and challenges Naofumi and his group to battle. Despite the versatile capabilities of the shield, as well as the support of Raphtalia and Filo, they cannot land a hit against Glass, so Naofumi and his group flee for tactical reasons. Glass tries to make further attacks from a distance but is forced to retreat due to the time limit of the wave, so that the wave was repelled but not defeated. After the fight, Naofumi wonders why the waves have a time limit and what their real purpose is. Naofumi and Raphtalia are ordered to the king who wants to know the secret of his newly learned skills. Since Naofumi refuses to reveal this to him, the king threatens to inflict pain on Filo and Raphtalia, which in turn threatens Naofumi with a worse fate. After the argument with the king, Naofumi, visibly amused, and Raphtalia withdraw from the court. In the vestibule, an unknown woman with a distinctive style warns Naofumi of a conspiracy by the church against him. Melty tries to convince her father to reconcile himself with the hero of the shield, but this refuses. After Naofumi has bought new equipment from Erhart, he and his group make their way to Schildfrieden to use the dragon hourglass there. On the way they meet Melty again, who wants to try to reconcile the hero of the shield and her father. While she is talking to Naofumi, he notices that a knight of the royal bodyguard is storming Melty to kill her. Naofumi can prevent this at the last moment. | ||||||||

| While Naofumi protects Melty from the knights' attacks, one of the knights accuses him of kidnapping . With the help of a glass ball , royal court magicians record the events and manipulate the recorded events with magic in order to credibly simulate the false reality of the kidnapping. The knights withdraw and Naofumi finds a chain with the coat of arms of the "Church of the Three Heroes", who despise the hero of the shield, from a captured attacker. Deprived of the opportunity to leave Melromarc in the direction of Schildfrieden, the hero of the shield decides to protect Melty, uncover the conspiracy and go to Siltvelt instead. So the group sets out on the path between mountain and valley with the other heroes and the royal army as the enemy behind them. Not knowing that the Queen's missionaries are watching the situation, Naofumi's group tries to flee from their pursuers along a ravine , where a detached stone alarms a nearby soldier . On a slope they are placed by the other heroes and surrounded by the soldiers. As the situation Melty tries to clarify Malty accused the hero of the shield her little sister Melty using his shield ability by brainwashing her to have brought to heel. The three heroes believe Malty's statements and demand that Naofumi release Melty. But Melty fears that she will be murdered by her sister Malty , so Naofumi refuses the request and tries to escape again. Malty begins to attack the shield hero, his group and Melty, but thanks to her illusion magic, Raphtalia can sneak behind Malty and attack her and prevent this powerful spell. Ren and Itsuki are beginning to doubt the motivation behind Malty's actions. Naofumi throws Ren a chain with the pendant of the "Church of the Three Holy Heroes" and tells him to investigate before he disappears with his group in the woods . After Naofumi has freed Filo from the magical ankle cuff, a "shadow" appears - a missionary of the queen who asks Naofumi and his group to visit the queen. Just before they can discuss their new plan, Raphtalia notices that a fire has broken out nearby . | ||||||||

| Malty and the wizards set fire to the forest to drive the hero of the shield and his group out of the forest. Rumor has it that Naofumi started the fire to escape. The next morning the gate to Siltvelt is locked due to the royal decree, so the group decides to agree to the audience with the queen. On the way to the Queen's Castle, the troops cross an area ruled by a noble who is kind to Melty. You are surprised by Van Reichnott, the aforementioned nobleman, and brought to his estate . Reichnott has been informed of the events and offers Naofumi to spend the night in his property. The next morning, Raphtalia and the hero of the shield watch Reichnott being led away by foreign soldiers. A maiden warns the group to flee. In a ventilation duct to the pantry , the two see Melty ordering the foreign knights to leave Reichnott's subjects in peace. Idol Rabier, the leader of the foreign soldiers, convinces Melty to be escorted to his property. Raphtalia recognizes Rabier from before, so Naofumi has to calm her down. After the air is clear, the two of them look for Filo and find her in the attic. Together they make their way to Rabier's fortress to save Melty. Once there, they see Demis, Reichnott's subjects, trying to force open the entrance gate. Naofumi, Filo and Raphtalia use the location to get into the property unnoticed. Naofumi turns his poison shield on a security guard to find out Melty's whereabouts. Rabier threatens her with torture after Reichnott has had a hard time , if she does not tell him the whereabouts of the “devil of the shield”. But before that happens, Filo, Raphtalia and Naofumi storm Rabier's room. Raphtalia confronts Rabier and pushes him into the corner, where he kneels and begs for his life. | ||||||||

| In the past, Raphtalia's quiet life ended with the appearance of the first wave that destroyed her home village and killed many residents, including her parents. When they decide to rebuild their village after the wave, the survivors were attacked, captured and led away by the soldiers of Rabier and the king, disguised as insurgents. Raphtalia ends up with her childhood friends Keel and Rifana at Rabier's house, who takes pleasure in torturing the demi children in the most cruel way . Since Raphtalia's parents always asked their daughter to smile, even in difficult times, Rabier loses his pleasure in torturing her and instead takes out his aggression on her friends. She tries to keep hope, but loses it when her friend dies in her sleep next to her. Eventually she is the only one sold to slave traders, where Naofumi would later acquire her as a slave. Raphtalia therefore confronts Rabier with his deeds at the time. When she is about to start the fatal blow, Naofumi stops her. She refrains from killing Rabier, realizing that Rabier's death will not bring her inner peace. Seriously offended and angry, Rabier attacks Raphtalia, but she is able to fend off him with her mana sword. Rabier slips and falls out of the window. After rescuing Reichnott, Raphtalia takes the group to the underground torture chamber and confesses that they and their friends were tortured by Rabier in the past. In the dungeon they find surviving demi children, including Keel. At first he does not recognize Raphtalia because of her changed appearance. When Raphtalia finds the remains of her friend, she suffers a nervous breakdown because she believes she has abandoned her friend. Naofumi comforts her and explains that she has given him new courage. Thanks to her, he slowly learns to trust other people again and saved him from the " darkness ". Raphtalia promises to rebuild her village one day. As they leave the torture chamber, they see how the rabier, believed dead, loosens the seal of the obelisk with a spell and frees an armored, tyrannical dragon from the magical seal, whereby it is crushed by that freed monster. | ||||||||

| In a remote location, an initially unknown woman learns of Filo who she believes could become the future queen of the Filolials. Meanwhile, Naofumi and his group lure the monster freed by Rabier from the property, as he is attracted to the crystal in Filo's body. At a lake in the middle of the forest, they face the monster, but cannot cause it any damage. Suddenly a magical fog spreads and numerous filolial birds surround both the dragon and the group around the shield hero. Due to the fog, Naofumi cannot use his wrath shield. He hears a female voice that forbids him to use the shield. After Naofumi asks the unknown voice to show himself, a huge Filolial bird appears in the middle of the lake, which easily defeats the dragon. After the fight, like Filo, she transforms into a young woman and reveals herself as Fitoria, the current queen of the Filolias. Against Fitoria's advice, Naofumi absorbs part of the dragon monster to increase its fighting power. Fitoria takes the group to the "Realm of the Filolias" to hold a conversation with Naofumi. Naofumi tells her about everything that has happened so far. Fitoria asks Naofumi to get along with the other heroes, which Naofumi refuses because of the past story. As a result, Fitoria Naofumi threatens to kill all four heroes if they do not settle their dispute, as this is of integral importance for the fight against the monster wave, i.e. both the protection of people and the protection of this world. | Fitoria takes Melty hostage in a magical wind prison and challenges Filo to a fight. At first it looks like Filo is vastly inferior to her, but thanks to Naofumi's help, she can concentrate and scratch the careless Fitoria and thus win the duel. Fitoria then declares Filo to be her successor as Queen of the Filolials. She hands Naofumi a strand of her hair for his shield, whereupon the "Filolial" series is activated, but is not yet usable due to the missing "class extension". In the evening, Fitoria and Naofumi continue their conversation from the previous evening. She explains that she made a promise to her keeper, a hero of the shield in the past, but can hardly remember him because too much time has passed. Naofumi promises her to try to reconcile with the other heroes. Meanwhile, Ren and Itsuki find a cave in which the four sacred weapons are kept, but they discover that the treasure chest is empty. Shortly afterwards, Itsuki notices that something is wrong and tells everyone to flee. Shortly afterwards, a huge explosion destroys the cave. | ||||||||

| Fitoria teleports the shield hero Naofumi and his group near a border crossing. Since Naofumi Fitoria has promised to talk to the other heroes, they make their way to the border . There they are expected by Motoyasu, his group and the royal knighthood. Motoyasu accuses Naofumi of killing the other two heroes and forces him to fight. Naofumi can defeat him, but Filo quickly notices that something is wrong and asks Naofumi to protect everyone with his “shield prison” and “shield magic”. Shortly afterwards, a huge beam of light breaks down on the two groups. The Pope of the Church of the Three Holy Heroes appears and confesses to both planning the conspiracy and killing the two heroes Ren and Itsuki. He also reveals that if his plan succeeds, he will abolish the monarchy in Melromarc and proclaim a theocratic state. | ||||||||

| Melty realizes that Pope Balmus owns an ancient replica of all four weapons that is said to have been lost a long time ago. Naofumi and Motoyasu fail to break the magical defenses of this weapon, which is generated by the mana of hundreds of servants of the Pope. Ren and Itsuki, who were believed dead, appear and rush to their aid. They report that their investigations have led them into a trap and were almost fatal for them. The three heroes now realize that Naofumi was made a scapegoat by the church from the start . Ren and Itsuki also report that an army of the queen is on its way to stop the Pope, but the Pope refuses to give up. The heroes decide to want to work together, with Naofumi reminding the other heroes of their past mistakes and accusing them of failure during the last "wave". The Pope uses this discussion to attack the heroes with a magical attack, which Naofumi repels. Naofumi decides to work with the other heroes, but only owing to the promise to Fitoria. The four heroes now fight side by side, but are trapped in a magically created cathedral by Pope Balmus . | ||||||||

| The four heroes try desperately to break the cathedral spell, but are unsuccessful. Naofumi notes that the Wrath Shield's effects are neutralized within the spell. Pope Balmus, meanwhile, is putting the life of his followers at risk by continuously draining mana from them in order to prepare a strong, widespread attack. To be able to fend off this attack, Naofumi decides to release the dragon's soul trapped in the shield. This gives him the berserk armor, but has great difficulty countering the dragon's wrath. Raphtalia, Filo, and Melty can prevent Naofumi from being devoured by anger, but are injured by the cursed flames of the Wrath Shield. The hero of the shield, who has come back inside, can repel the attack that Balmus has prepared. Since the latter has lost many disciples due to the constant withdrawal of mana, Balmus can no longer defend himself in the meantime. While the other three heroes launch a joint attack on Balmus' defense, Naofumi and Filo attack Balmus directly to distract him. Balmus can fend off the attack thanks to advanced magic, but at the last moment he is stopped by a spell from the queen who has meanwhile arrived at the scene. Naofumi takes this opportunity and uses his blood sacrifice ability to defeat Balmus, which causes him to lose a lot of blood . | Three days after the events in the border area of Melromarc, the badly injured Naofumi awakens from a dream. Queen Mirellia introduces herself to him and apologizes for the defamation of his person by the Holy Church of the Three Heroes, as well as by her eldest daughter Malty and her husband Aultcray. She explains to him that she has attended a conference with the other states to summon the four heroes. So every nation should be allowed to summon a hero, which was thwarted by the willful actions of the Kingdom of Melromarc. She asks Naofumi to come to the palace the following day so that his name can be cleared. During the night Naofumi dreams of the execution of the king and princess and wakes up bathed in sweat. The next day the trial finally takes place. Malty, who is temporarily given a slave seal to catch her lying, and her father are found guilty and sentenced to death after a long process of high treason . Malty desperately pleads for her life and before the sentence can be carried out, Naofumi, who initially hesitated to intervene, offers an alternative: The two should officially bear a new name and are not allowed to discard it until the end of their lives. In the evening Naofumi and his companions say goodbye to Melty and set off to fight the next waves. Mirellia reveals to her youngest daughter that she would have been ready to kill herself if Naofumi hadn't intervened at the execution ceremony . | The class-up of Raphtalia and Filo miraculously fails and Mirellia, who turns out to be Filolial Liebharin, speculates that this is done through Fitoria's blessing. At a royal banquet, the queen asks the four heroes for a private conversation, while at the same time Raphtalia clashes with a drunk companion of the bow hero, who repeatedly insults Naofumi. Melty sees her older sister "Slut" trying to poison the food of Naofumi's companions . Mirellia informs the heroes about an upcoming event on the Cal Mira archipelago , in which the heroes can receive significantly more experience points. The heroes get into a heated discussion about the hidden properties - such as a weapon copying system - of their holy weapons, whereupon Naofumi leaves the festival. The next morning Naofumi copies all of the weapons of the blacksmith Elhart before they leave for Raphatalia's home village to pay their last respects to Rifana. There Naofumi meets two adventurers. | Upon introducing them to each other, L'Arc thinks Naofumi is using an alias after hearing about the shield hero's alleged misdeeds. On arrival in Cal Mira, Governor habenburg leads Naofumi and his troops to an inn while the other three heroes recover from their seasickness . After the hero of the shield has learned a new reinforcement spell, his group sets out to collect experience points. Naofumi makes new weapons for Raphtalia and Filo. In the evening Therese and L'Arc find the group around the shield hero and bring them to a celebration in a nearby eatery. After Therese Naofumi asks her to forge an accessory out of high-quality material, he makes her an item with a rare gemstone, much to her favor. On the following day, L'Arc, Therese and the shield hero's group go leveling together. There Naofumi learns that Therese's magic fire can heal his wounds. In the evening they part ways. While Naofumi, Raphtalia and Filo are relaxing on the beach , the latter discovers a ruin in the sea that arouses Naofumi's interest. This ruin houses a kite hourglass that predicts when the next wave will arrive within the next two days. | ||||||||

| Naofumi and his companions inform the Queen about the soon approaching wave and set up a fleet to fight it while the population of Cal Mira has meanwhile been evacuated . Together with the other heroes, as well as L'Arc and Therese, this fleet is transported to the scene of the event when it reaches the wave. While the fleet fights against the smaller monsters, the four heroes fight against the supposed boss of the wave. Naofumi lures the huge whale-like monster from below so that the other three heroes can attack it. They do little damage, so L'Arc intervenes and kills the boss with a few attacks. When the heroes want to collect the supposed reward , they are attacked by L'Arc and Therese, who also identify themselves as heroes of another world. In order to save their world from ruin, they must kill the four heroes in battle. Naofumi can survive the fight against L'Arc, but the continuation of the fight is interrupted by the suddenly appearing Glass. | ||||||||

| Naofumi challenges Glass to a duel . He realizes that his Soul Eater shield is very effective against her, as he draws life energy from her instead of mana. Glass also reveals himself as a heroine who pursues the same goal as L'Arc and Therese. When she threatens to lose, L'Arc gives her a strengthening potion. Before she can launch her next attack, Raphtalia intervenes in the battle. Lecia uses a wind spell to shoot barrels of alcohol at Naofumi, which explode over the battlefield and incapacitate Glass while he himself does not feel any negative effects. Before the fight ends, L'Arc, Therese, and Glass retreat. After the wave, Naofumi is appointed landlord of the Seyatte area and has Raphtalia's village rebuilt so that it can later be used as a base.
