Thomas Erich Killinger (born June 11, 1957 in Cologne ) is a German composer, arranger, librettist , actor and singer.

life and work

Thomas Erich Killinger is the eldest son of Klaus Killinger and Ursula Killinger (née Drücke), grandfather is Erich Walter Killinger , great-grandfather Emil Killinger .

At the age of ten, he and his twin brother already received scholarships from the Mannheim Conservatory for piano studies. In 1970 Thomas joined the Laubacher Kantorei , boys' choir of the Hessen-Nassau Church in Laubach , Upper Hesse. Hans Michael Beuerle , Dieter Kurz , Heinz Rudolf Meier addition to numerous concerts at home and abroad, he sang as a boy soprano in 1972, under the direction of Hans Michael Beuerle as initial reception, the Requiem in D minor by Anton Bruckner on plate with one.

As a result, his musical training was continued through organ and trumpet lessons and work as a choir prefect . After graduating from high school in 1977 and two years of military service in the German Navy, he was involved in various bands and with composition and studio work with Ricky King and Pete Tex , until Killinger was finally engaged by Charles B. Axton at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern. He debuted in 1982 in the role of Tony in West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein . He subsequently sang this role at various theaters until he was last on stage in 1985 at the Hanover State Opera .

Until 2000, Killinger worked in countless theater productions. He appeared as Lucentio in Kiss me Kate , Berger in Hair , the Freddy in My Fair Lady under Benno Hoffmann , Quasimodo in Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre Dame, Lord Burleigh in Mary Steward , Weislingen in Götz von Berlichingen . He was particularly patronized during this time by Ellen Schwiers and Maria Caleita . In 1988 Killinger began to compose seriously again. The theatrical musical QuasiModo was created together with Charles Kálmán . Since 1990 he has been responsible for the new compositions, musical facilities and conductors at the Jagsthausen Castle Festival . In 1994 he was engaged for the American premiere of Schippel the plumper , Bürger Schippel from Carl Sternheim to Los Angeles (Cal. Rep. Company). He played Paul Schippel and took over the musical direction. In 1998/99 Killinger was musical director at the Baden-Baden Theater .

In addition to his diverse theater engagements, Killinger has appeared in several television productions, for example Die wilde Auguste with Erni Singerl (BR). He worked with and for Heidi Brühl , Raimund Harmstorf , Hana Hegerová , Eartha Kitt , Diana Körner , Gerhart Lippert , Ellen Schwiers , Katharina Jacob , Oliver Tobias , Dietz-Werner Steck , Angelika Milster , Ron Williams , Angela Roy , Veronika von Quast , Anna Montanaro , April Hailer , Marc Marshall , Cusch Jung , Matthias Davids , Andrea Spatzek , Gerhard Lippert , Monika Dahlberg , Chariklia Baxevanos , Gerd Silberbauer , Götz Burger , Mojca Erdmann , Margit Bönisch , Stefan Huber (director) , Achim Zeppenfeld , Die Priester , Gary Todd , Volker Plangg , Hartmut H. Forche , Thorsten Brötzmann , Thomas Amper and others.

In 2000 his daughter Freya-Frances died in a tragic accident.

In the role of Tranio in The Taming of the Shrew , he was on stage for the last time as an actor. Since then he has been composing, arranging and producing musicals, theater music, event music, songs etc. He has composed works for church music (e.g. The Name of Man, Oratorio in Five Pictures) and works as musical director at various German theaters. He is a vocal artist and pianist of the Lichtmond pop formation .

Thomas E. Killinger is married to the author and librettist Petra Franziska Killinger (Butterfly Whispers ) and has two daughters, Freya-Frances, who died in August 2000, and Vedika Daphne. He lives with his family in the Munich area.
