The University Township is one of 28 townships in St. Louis County in the eastern part of the US -amerikanischen state of Missouri and part of the metropolitan region of Greater St. Louis . In 2010 the University Township had 34,281 residents.

The township is named after the University of Missouri – St. Louis named.

geography

The University Township is located in the inner western suburbs of St. Louis . The Mississippi , which forms the border with Illinois , runs about 8 km east.

The University Township is located at 38 ° 40 ′  N , 90 ° 19 ′  W and extends over 16.3 km².

The University Township is located in eastern St. Louis County and borders the city of St. Louis to the east. Within St. Louis County, the University Township is bordered by Hadley Township in the south, Clayton Township in the southwest , Creve Coeur Township in the west, Midland Township in the north and northwest, and Normandy Township in the northeast .

The Interstate 170 , the western inner ring road of St. Louis, limits the University Township to the west. Missouri State Route 340 runs through the southern center of the township ; Missouri State Route 180 runs parallel to it further north . In the northeast, the township is bounded by Missouri State Route 115 . All other streets within the township are inner-city connecting streets.

By the University Township leading Red Line of the Metrolink called Light rail -Nahverkehrssystems the metropolitan area around St. Louis. The line goes to Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport .

The Union Pacific Railroad runs west through the University Township from St. Louis.

Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport is located around 10 km northwest of the University Township.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census , the University Township had 34,281 people in 14,128 households. The population density was 2103.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.41 people in each of the 14,128 households.

The racial the population was composed of 27.0 percent white, 68.0 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 1.5 percent Asian and 0.8 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.1 percent of the population.

23.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 62.0 percent were between 18 and 64 and 14.1 percent were 65 years or older. 54.3 percent of the population was female.

The average annual income for a household was 41,244  USD . The per capita income was $ 24,538. 15.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
