The Clayton Township is one of 28 townships in St. Louis County in the eastern part of the US -amerikanischen state of Missouri and part of the metropolitan region of Greater St. Louis . In 2010 Clayton Township had 35,446 residents.

Clayton Township is located in the western suburbs of St. Louis . The Mississippi , which forms the border with Illinois , is about 15 km to the east.

Interstate 64 runs through Clayton Township in a west-east direction on a joint route with US Highway 40 . In the east of the township, Interstate 170 branches off to the north. The western boundary of the township is partly formed by US Highways 61 and 64 . Missouri State Route 100 runs through the south of Clayton Township . All other streets within the township are inner-city connecting streets.

Through the east of Clayton Township runs a line of the MetroLink called Light-rail public transport system from St. Louis.

The Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport is located around 15 kilometers north of Clayton Township.
