Chesterfield Township is located in the western suburbs of St. Louis on the right bank of the Missouri River . The Mississippi , which forms the border with Illinois , is about 40 km to the east.

Interstate 64 , coming from the north-west over the Daniel Boone Bridge into St. Louis County, runs through the north of Chesterfield Township and shares a route here with US Highways 40 and 61 . Further south, old Route 66 shares a route with Missouri State Route 100 . In a north-south direction, Missouri State Route 109 continues south from its northern end point through the entire township. In the northeast, Missouri State Route 340 runs a few kilometers through Chesterfield Township. All other roads are county roads or subordinate inner-city connecting roads.
A Union Pacific Railroad runs west along the Missouri River from St. Louis.
The Spirit of St. Louis Airport is located on the territory of Chesterfield Township . The larger Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport is around 35 km northeast of Chesterfield Township.
