Valentin Ritter von Streffleur (born February 18, 1808 in Vienna ; † July 5, 1870 in Purkersdorf ) was an Imperial and Royal War Commissioner and Section Head .

Life

Streffleur was a descendant of Johann Georg Streffleur (around 1678-1754), imperial Fourier the hard Schieren - bodyguard and son of Hofkriegsratsbeamten Leopold Streffleur. The Imperial and Royal captain in the staff of genius Joseph Streffleur (1805-1852), last entrusted with the management of the fortress construction on the Blocksberg near Ofen , was Valentin Streffleur's older brother.

Valentin Streffleur began his career in the 49th Infantry Regiment in St. Pölten , then switched to training for arms service at the cadet company in Graz . In 1830 he returned with the rank of ensign in the 49th Infantry Regiment, where he was promoted to first lieutenant and then assigned to the quartermaster general . As a captain and teacher, he switched to the Italian aristocratic bodyguard . After his promotion to major in the 7th Infantry Regiment , Streffleur was assigned the task of teaching Archduke Franz Joseph in the war sciences from 1847 to 1848 . In May 1848 he was Garde - Adjutant General from July to October of that year as a major commander in chief of the Vienna National Guard.

From mid-October 1848 to spring 1849, Streffleur was deputy deputy at the Frankfurt National Assembly for the constituency of Bruck an der Leitha .

In 1850, Streffleur finally went into community service. He found various uses as head of the building archives, secretary of the statistical office, section council and advisor for the cadastral administration as well as board of the triangulation and calculation office. In 1859 he was finally appointed General War Commissioner in the War Ministry and in 1860 took over the editing of the Austrian Military Journal . He retained this editorial activity until the end of his life. It is recognized as significant and meritorious even before its extensive publication activity. In March 1865 he received the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class and in October he was raising in the knighthood bestowed. After a short illness he died in 1870 during his summer stay in Purkersdorf in the Vienna Woods .

Valentin Streffleur was an honorary member of the Imperial and Royal Society of Doctors in Vienna and Vice President of the Association for Regional Studies of Lower Austria , and among other things a member of the Vienna Geographic Society and correspondent of the Imperial and Royal Geological Institute . In 1879, a street called Streffleurgasse was named in his honor in the Brigittenau district of Vienna .

Since 1839, Streffleur was married to Anna Hett (1811-1880). The marriage grave is still located in the Hütteldorfer Friedhof in the Penzing district of Vienna. It is one of nine honorary graves dedicated to the city of Vienna. Four daughters were born in the marriage. The daughter Gabriele (1843–1902) had married Josef in 1862, son of the textile industrialist Josef Dierzer von Traunthal († 1857). The daughter Hermine (1840–1920) had married the Viennese architect Heinrich Ritter von Förster (1832–1889), a son of the architect Ludwig Förster , in 1861 . Hermine von Förster b. In 1904 von Sreffleur obtained permission from the emperor to unite names for himself and her descent . One of her sons was the section head Rudolf Ritter von Förster-Streffleur (1864–1936), who created the legal and organizational requirements for modern monument preservation in the Austrian Ministry of Culture and Education , and in 1918 secured the artifacts of the former court collections against claims by the successor states . After the First World War he had made a decisive contribution to promoting art and maintaining music. From 1893 he was married to Marie Dierzer von Traunthal.
