Traffic in Freital

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The traffic in Freital is mainly handled by road and rail. The Weißeritz flowing through Freital with its source rivers Rote and Wilde Weißeritz is not navigable. The nearest airport is in Dresden .

Local public transport is carried out by the transport companies Regionalverkehr Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge , DB Regio Südost and Bayerische Oberlandbahn with the Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn brand . Until 1974 the Plauensche Grundbahn operated the Dresden tram from Löbtau to Deuben and later to Hainsberg. It was replaced by the “3A” bus line. The most important routes for road and rail traffic are along the Weißeritz in the Döhlen basin . The most important road for road traffic is Dresdner Strasse , for rail traffic it is the part of the Dresden – Werdau railway line that runs through the city.

Road traffic

The main road 36 is the feeder road for Freital

The street with the greatest traffic importance in the city area is the Dresdner Strasse or Tharandter Strasse. It begins at the city limits of Dresden- Dölzschen and then runs in a south-westerly direction through the center of the Freital districts Potschappel , Deuben and Hainsberg . In Hainsberg the Rabenauer Straße ( S 193 ) branches off to the south. At this intersection, Dresdner Strasse becomes Tharandter Strasse, it now runs west along the Wilden Weißeritz into this city. Dresdner Strasse is almost entirely equipped with two lanes in each direction. In parts of Potschappels, Deubens and Hainsberg, it is limited to only one lane in each direction by parking lanes on the street side. Due to the large volume of traffic and the noise pollution and the resulting low attractiveness of the street, the inner-city retail trade is not very pronounced, and Dresdner Strasse is not very attractive as a residential area either. In order to upgrade the district centers and to reduce the noise and exhaust emissions in the city center, the construction of a bypass road began at the end of the 1990s , which is currently being completed between the city limits of Dresden and Deuben. The extension to the existing line to Tharandt (bypassing Deuben and Hainsberg) is planned. Dresdner Straße is classified as S 194 . The S 36 also runs between Potschappel and Deuben via Dresdner Straße. The entire Dresdner and Tharandter Straße is part of the " Silberstraße ", a historical transport route for silver from the Ore Mountains to Dresden.

All important connecting roads from Freital to the surrounding area and the parts of the city outside the Döhlen basin flow into Dresdner Straße. In addition to Rabenauer Straße, Poisentalstraße is another important street in the Freitaler traffic route network. It connects the city to the federal road 170 via the Niederhäslich and Possendorf districts (Bannewitz municipality) . The B 170 is the connecting road between Dresden Central Station and the border crossing to the Czech Republic near Zinnwald (city of Altenberg ). At the intersection between Dresdner and Poisentalstraße is the current end of the bypass road. The Poisentalstraße is classified as S 36.

After the S 36 has run about two kilometers over Dresdner Straße, it branches off to the northwest at the district boundary between Döhlen and Potschappel and connects the districts of Zauckerode , Saalhausen , Pesterwitz and Wurgwitz to the city center. At the same time, it creates the shortest connection to the federal motorway 17 (Dresden– Prague ) via the federal highway 173 . A street branching off from Dresdner Strasse in Neudöhlen connects the city center with the Weißig district and the Kleinopitz district (city of Wilsdruff ) as well as the village of Großopitz (city of Tharandt ). At the same junction, the connecting road with the districts of Burgk , Birkigt and Kleinnaundorf branches off. In Burgk it has a connection to the " Kohlenstraße ", which used to be important for the extraction of hard coal .

Streets with less traffic importance are Burgwartstraße (parallel connection Potschappel – Zauckerode to S 36) and Coschützer Straße (Potschappel– Dresden-Coschütz ). Due to the lack of the Freital city center, there are only a few pedestrian zones. The largest is located in the “Mühlenviertel”, a modern district in Deuben that was built in the 1990s. Some streets around the center of Potschappel are also not permitted for car traffic.

Bus transport

Line network plan
City bus of the line F at the bus station

Six city bus routes are operated in Freital. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Freital got a city bus system with lines A – E in the 1990s. The bus station was opposite the glassworks on Albert-Schweitzer-Straße. In the course of a line change, the sixth line "F" was added at the turn of the millennium. With the construction of the bypass road for Potschappel, the new bus station was built near the former tram shed in the Deuben district.

In the Freital city area there are over 90 bus stops , which are served by the regional lines of the RVD as well as the bus lines of the Dresden public transport company in addition to the city buses . Outside the city area there are also stops served by the bus lines. The central transfer point is the "Freital-Deuben bus station", which is connected to the Freital-Deuben train station. At the station there are connections to the Dresden S-Bahn and regional express trains operated by Deutsche Bahn .

The route network is largely concentrated on the main roads.
