Administrative division of the Republic of Tatarstan

The Republic of Tatarstan in the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation is divided into 43 Rajons and 2 urban districts . A total of 38 urban and 914 rural communities are subordinate to the Rajons (status: 2010).

In addition to by far the largest cities in the republic, the capital Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny , which form their own urban districts, twelve other cities are considered to be cities of republican importance . However, since the last administrative reform, these have been subordinate to the respective Rajons ( Almetjewsk , Asnakajewo , Bawly , Bugulma , Buinsk , Jelabuga , Leninogorsk , Nizhnekamsk , Nurlat , Sainsk , Selenodolsk and Chistopol ).
