Baltassi ( Russian Балтаси́ ; Tatar Балтач , Baltaç ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia with 7711 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 90 km as the crow flies northeast of the republic capital Kazan not far from the border with the republic Mari El and the Oblast Kirov . It is located on the right bank of the right Vyatka tributary Shoshma .

Baltasi is the administrative center of the Rajons Baltassinski and seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Baltasi, (3 km south-east) are among the also the villages Kuyuk (4 km south), Kujukbasch (6 km SSW) and Kurmala.

history

A place with the Russian name Akmanowa Pustosch in place of today's settlement was first mentioned at the beginning of the 17th century. In the 19th century it became the administrative seat of a Wolost in the Ujesd Kazan of the Kazan Governorate under its current name .

On March 2, 1932, Baltassi became the administrative seat of the newly created Rajons named after him. Since 2004 the place has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

Baltassi is located on the regional road 16K-0396, which leads from Kazan via Arsk to the border with the Kirov Oblast, from there towards Malmysch . The nearest train station is in Schemordan a good 20 km southeast on the Moscow  - Kazan - Yekaterinburg route , accessible via regional road 16K-0517.
