Mamadysch ( Russian Мамадыш ; Tatar Мамадыш Mamadış ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan ( Russia ) with 14,435 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 170 km east of the republic capital Kazan on the right bank of the Vyatka not far from its confluence with the Kama .
Mamadysh is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
history
Mamadysh originated as a Tatar village named after the first settler. Russians began to settle here in the 17th century , and the village was given the additional name of Troitskoye after the Trinity Church was built (in Russian, Troitskaya zerkow ) .
In 1781 town charter was granted as the administrative center of a district ( Ujesds ).

Culture and sights
The city has a local museum. In the Rajon there is another local museum in Takanysh village . In the village of Tulbajewo there is a memorial museum and library for the Tatar poet and writer Şäixi Mannur (1905–1980), who was born there, and a museum for the Tatar composer Farit Jarullin (1914–1943) in the village of Malyje Suni .
In a letter to the folklorist and writer Pavel Golochvastov , Lev Tolstoy wrote in 1876 about the picturesque city of Mamadysh, situated on the Vyatka : “ You will not believe it! I would rather live in Mamadysch than in Naples, Rome, Venice ... "
economy
Mamadysch is the center of the shoe and textile industry (e.g. cotton fabrics).
